Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick may be trying to charm Cristiano Ronaldo into a move back to Old Trafford by revealing just how big a fan he is of the Real Madrid star.

The Portugal international is unsettled at the Bernabeu this summer after a case of alleged tax fraud failed against him by authorities in Spain, leading to rumours linking him with his old club.

Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly in for the 31-year-old, but Carrick has made it pretty clear he’d relish the chance to welcome him back to Old Trafford if the opportunity presented itself.

However, he played down any talk that the move would happen and insists it is not his place to advise the club in the transfer market.

‘Listen, you don’t need me to say, everyone knows what type of a player he is and how good he is and what a career he’s had,’ Carrick told Sky Sports.

‘It’s not for me to get involved in whether he comes to Manchester United, whether he leaves Madrid or not, that’s not my business at this moment in time.

‘Of course, I was lucky enough to play with him. It was just a joy to work so close to him and see how he plays.

‘We will see how it pans out over the next few weeks and months.’
