Liverpool reportedly believe they could have an edge over rivals Arsenal in the pursuit of the transfer of Monaco star Kylian Mbappe this summer.

The France international is one of Europe’s most wanted players in this transfer window, after scoring 26 goals in all competitions at the age of just 18 in a stunning breakthrough season.

Mbappe’s preferred destination is thought to be Real Madrid, though Arsene Wenger remains in the hunt for this ambitious move after approaching the player personally.

Still, Arsenal will not be playing in the Champions League next season and Liverpool feel this could swing things in their favour as they remain serious about beating other top clubs to his signature.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Reds have already seen two bids rejected for the youngster, claim they’re still ready to spend big to bring him to Anfield if he decides not to move to Madrid straight away.

However, they are also aware that making their move is likely to spark a bidding war between themselves and Manchester United, City and Chelsea.

While Mbappe is keen on linking up with French legend Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu, his priority remains to play regularly instead of being a glamour signing.

This could also give Liverpool hope of landing him as he would likely become first choice up front in a side that lacked a genuine striker last season, with Roberto Firmino fulfilling a false-9 role ahead of the out-of-favour Daniel Sturridge.

Liverpool have already boosted their attacking options with the signing of Mohamed Salah, whose arrival was confirmed yesterday.
