Liverpool may have received a significant boost in their transfer pursuit of Naby Keita with the news that his club RB Leipzig have signed a potential replacement in Konrad Laimer.

The Reds have been strongly linked with Keita for much of this summer, with the 22-year-old’s performances in last season’s Bundesliga attracting plenty of interest.

While Leipzig seemingly want as much as £70million for the player, it is thought that Liverpool could be prepared to smash their transfer record with an offer of around £50m for his services.

Jurgen Klopp could now have some cause to be hopeful that Leipzig will relax their stance on their star player, with Laimer’s arrival being confirmed today.

The 20-year-old joins from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, and has signed a four-year contract with the German runners-up.

It remains to be seen if this will definitely result in Keita leaving, but his club would be well advised to prepare for that eventuality after he recently admitted his ambition to move on to bigger things in the near future.

The Guinea international mentioned Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City as among the elite teams he has ambitions to play for in the next two or three years.

Liverpool will hope they are in that bracket as well, as Klopp continues to search for a top class central midfield signing this summer.
