Manchester United are reportedly looking increasingly likely to sign Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as Real Madrid step up their interest in the transfer of David de Gea.
The Demark international was linked with the Red Devils earlier this summer, though at the time he was said to be valued at as much as £50million by the Foxes.
According to the Daily Mirror, Leicester have now lowered their asking price for Schmeichel and are already weighing up moving for a replacement for their number one ‘keeper.
United are thought to be looking again at Schmeichel as they anticipate renewed efforts from Real Madrid to sign Spanish shot-stopper De Gea in a big-money deal.
The 26-year-old has risen to become one of the best ‘keppers in the world during his six seasons at Old Trafford, and could fetch a whopping £60m if he moves to the Bernabeu this summer.
That would be a world record for a goalkeeper, but Schmeichel at half that price could make a fine replacement for Jose Mourinho in goal.
Schmeichel’s father Peter notably played for United at the peak of his career and is still fondly remembered as one of the club’s all-time greatest players during the immensely successful Sir Alex Ferguson era.
While his son is not quite at that level, he has shone in recent times, particularly as Leicester stunned world football to win the Premier League title in 2015/16.
Schmeichel Sr has previously said it would be a ‘fantastic dream’ for his son to also represent the club, and it seems a deal is now looking increasingly likely as Leicester expect around £30m for his signature.
