Unsettled Chelsea striker Diego Costa has sent a cryptic message to fans by ‘liking’ the club’s transfer announcement of Alvaro Morata this evening.

The 24-year-old attacker has completed a club-record move to Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid, and will likely replace Costa up front for Antonio Conte’s side this season.

Costa has been told he has no future at Chelsea and is being strongly linked with a return to his old club Atletico Madrid, though the deal has been dragging on for much of the summer.

It remains to be seen if things have moved any closer now that Chelsea have a replacement for last season’s top scorer, but Costa certainly seems glad to see his fellow Spaniard rocking up in west London.

It may be that the 28-year-old is keen to show his support in the unlikely event that he does end up staying, or he merely sees the completed deal as one step closer to getting the move away that he so craves.

Costa shone for Chelsea in his three seasons at the Bridge but is understood never to have fully settled in London.

The Spain international helped the Blues to two Premier League title wins in his three seasons with the club, and scored in last season’s FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal.

Still, Conte has been keen to make a change up front and claimed today that he made the decision to axe Costa as far back as January, when the player was rumoured to have been unsettled by a bid from a Chinese Super League club.

‘The only thing I can tell you is that in January the Costa situation was very clear for the club, for him and his agent (Jorge Mendes). For me the situation is closed,’ the manager said.
