Luciano Spalletti insists Inter Milan remain over speculation linking Croatia star Ivan Perisic with Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho is said to have made Perisic, 28, one of his top targets this summer having already brought Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof to Old Trafford.

Perisic has impressed in Serie A over the past two years and Inter are reluctant to lose him unless a suitable offer, believed to be close to £50million, is on the table.

United have baulked at the valuation, however, leading to a stalemate between the two clubs despite Perisic being keen on the switch.

Speaking at his press conference on Sunday, Inter boss Spalletti reiterated Perisic’s importance to the team and said his departure would force the club to sign a replacement.

‘From my point of view the talk is very simple – Ivan is an important player for me, then you have to ask him how he is experiencing this interest from Manchester United,’ Spalletti told the Italian media.

‘But at the same time, he signed a contract which he must respect. Then, if Inter were to accept a certain kind of request, we would get an equally important player. For now things are going right.’

Inter technical director Walter Sabatini said last week that United were yet to make the ‘right’ offer for Perisic.

You all know what we want,’ Sabatini told Sky Sports Italia. ‘The right offer has not yet arrived.’

As well as targeting Perisic, Mourinho also hopes to bring a defensive midfielder to the club, with Nemanja Matic tipped to join United from Premier League champions Chelsea.
