Antonio Conte was unwilling to discuss Nemanja Matic’s future at Chelsea as Manchester United reportedly close in on a deal to sign the midfielder.

Matic, 28, is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer despite helping the Blues win two titles in the space of three years.

The Serbian star has been a dependable figure at Chelsea but is now deemed surplus to requirements following Tiemoue Bakayoko’s arrival in west London.

Jose Mourinho is keen to bring Matic to Old Trafford having worked with him at Chelsea and reports say Roman Abramovich has approved his £50m move to United.

But when asked about the player’s future at a pre-match press conference on Monday morning, Conte responded: ‘I don’t like to speak about players who are still here with us.’

Conte, 47, reiterated his belief that summer signing Alvaro Morata can have a significant impact at Chelsea after joining from Real Madrid.

‘He’s a young player but he has a lot of experience in his career,’ the Blues boss added.

‘He’s played in many big teams, like Real Madrid, and played in big games in the Champions League.

‘Hopefully he can have a good impact in the Premier League.’

The former Italy boss also refused to comment on speculation linking the champions with Inter Milan winger Antonio Candreva.

He said: ‘It is not correct to speak about a player of another team. He is an Inter player and I must respect his team and my players.’
