Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere are the biggest names to miss out on a place in Arsenal’s squad for the Emirates Cup this weekend as Arsene Wenger prepares for friendlies against Benfica and Sevilla.

The Gunners often host this two-day pre-season tournament at the Emirates Stadium, though didn’t manage to fit it into their schedule last summer.

Arsenal fans will now get a chance to see some of their new signings in action, with Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette both set to be involved over the weekend.

However, as it’s transfer season, focus is often on those who have not been included, with Arsenal facing doubts over some big names in the final few weeks of the transfer window.

Arsenal's Emirates Cup squad

GOALKEEPERS: Petr Cech, David Ospina, Emiliano Martinez

DEFENDERS: Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, Rob Holding, Nacho Monreal, Calum Chambers, Hector Bellerin, Sead Kolasinac, Cohen Bramall

MIDFIELDERS: Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Iwobi, Granit Xhaka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Joe Willock

FORWARDS: Alexandre Lacazette, Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck, Reiss Nelson

Sanchez is the biggest worry as he continues to snub the offer of a new contract amid links with the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, though he was not expected to take part in the Emirates Cup anyway.

The Chilean made it to the Confederations Cup final with his country earlier this summer, and as such has been given extra time to rest before returning to training.

Sanchez also suggested he’s ‘sick’ in his latest Instagram post, meaning his return could be delayed even further, though some Arsenal fans are sceptical as to whether he’s being entirely honest.

Wilshere, meanwhile, has seemingly been involved in Arsenal training in the last few days, though his injury status remains somewhat unclear after returning from loan at Bournemouth last season.

The England international’s future is also in doubt, with recent links to clubs such as West Ham, Crystal Palace and Sampdoria as his first-team prospects at the Emirates don’t look too promising ahead of the new season.

Other names to miss out are Lucas Perez, Joel Campbell, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy, who are all expected to leave the club before the end of the summer.

Defenders Gabriel and Shkodran Mustafi are both out injured, as is long-term absentee Santi Cazorla.
