Nemanja Matic has completed his move to Manchester United and has already been handed his shirt number for the season ahead.
The Serbian, who joins the club from Chelsea in a £40million deal, will wear the No.31 jersey.
There had been a strong hint that he would wear that particular number after a picture that was leaked from his medical on Sunday showed the figure on the front of a training kit he was wearing.
It’s possible the Serbian could wear it as soon as Wednesday when Manchester United take on Sampdoria in a friendly in Dublin.
Following the announcement of his arrival Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said: ‘I would like to thank him for his desire to join us because without that, it would be impossible to have him here. I am sure our players and supporters will love him. A big welcome to our new number 31.’
The previous incumbent of the jersey was Bastian Schweinsteiger who wore it prior to his departure for the MLS in January.
But aside from the World Cup winning German midfielder, who else has worn the shirt in the Premier League era?
Marouane Fellaini
Prior to Schweinsteiger is was occupied by the big Belgian. He wore it for the first two seasons following his arrival from Everton in 2013.
Scott Wootton
The academy graduate had the shirt during the 2012/13 campaign during which he made four appearances.
Corry Evans
It was another academy player who had it before then. Evans, who never made a senior appearance, was the official occupier from 2009-2011.
David Jones
Wore it from 2003-2005, making a total of four appearances.
Darren Fletcher
The Scottish midfielder wore the jersey for two seasons in the early days of his Old Trafford career – starting from 2000.
Nick Culkin
The young goalkeeper wore it in the two years prior to Fletcher.
John Curtis
The bright prospect owned the jersey from 1996-1998 prior to being offloaded in 2000.
Keith Gillespie
In the Premier League era Gillespie was the first ever wearer of the 31 jersey. The academy product never quite established himself before he was sold to Newcastle.
