Arsene Wenger has challenged Arsenal record signing Alexandre Lacazette to follow in the footsteps of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and take the Premier League by storm.

Ibrahimovic scored 28 goals in 46 appearances for United last season following his move from Paris Saint-Germain and helped the club win the EFL Cup and Europa League.

France international Lacazette joined the Gunners earlier in the summer and arrives in England having scored 100 goals in 203 league games for Lyon.

The 26-year-old has never played outside of France but Wenger hopes he can make an instant impact in the Premier League, just as Ibrahimovic did for Jose Mourinho’s United.

‘With Lacazette, it’s simple. He is an intelligent player. We have a game backed on mobility and technique and I think he can integrate that well,’ Wenger said.

‘After that, we get the efficiency. His record in France is to score one in 80 minutes. If he can maintain that record that would be ideal for us. As a game is in 90 that would guarantee you a goal.

‘Goal-scoring record is not necessarily transferable from the French League to the English league, that’s for sure.

‘But you could say that [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic transferred an identical amount of goals from France to England. So that’s the target Lacazette should set.’
