Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has slammed the behaviour of current Blues star Diego Costa as he continues to go on strike at Stamford Bridge.

The Spain international is back in his native Brazil and demanding a transfer to his old club Atletico Madrid after a public falling-out with manager Antonio Conte.

Costa shone for Chelsea last season, finishing as their top scorer to fire them to the Premier League title and the FA Cup final.

However, Cascarino has been left angered by the 28-year-old’s behaviour in this transfer window, saying he has embarrassed his profession by neglecting the terms of his contract.

‘Sometimes you get embarrassed to be an ex-player,’ Cascarino said. ‘Players will be embarrassed to listen and read about Diego Costa.

‘This guy totally thinks he can do what he wants. Hopefully Chelsea dig their heels in over Diego Costa.

‘That’s fine if his contract is up but you’ve two years to run (on the deal). You’ve a duty to stay and play for the football club.

‘Diego gives food to those who criticise footballers. He’s embarrassed every footballer.

‘He’s at the stage where he’s telling Chelsea how much he thinks he’s worth, which is wrong.’

Costa released a statement over his future earlier today, saying: ‘My destination is already made. I must return to Atletico Madrid. It turns out that there is the impasse that Chelsea does not want to release me.

‘But I believe that this situation will be resolved now on my return to Spain.’

Reports claim Chelsea are considering legal action if Costa does not return to get himself fit and in first-team contention as they fear his market value could decrease if his strike carries on.
