Jurgen Klopp has admitted he was forced into several changes for Liverpool’s game against Crystal Palace at Anfield.

It is Liverpool’s first home game of the new season, but the Reds have a massive Champions League clash against Hoffenheim on Wednesday night.

Liverpool take an advantage with them to Anfield after a 2-1 win in Germany and the Reds are just 90 minutes away from making the Champions League group stage.

Daniel Sturridge is one noticeable addition to the side that will play Palace while the star man at Watford a week ago, Mohamed Salah, drops to the bench.

‘It was a combination of the last game, the next game and the actual game, which is the main thing to think about,’ he said.

‘I really think we did absolutely more than OK so far, but we cannot close our eyes and say we will try as long as these boys can go.

‘It was clear we had to make changes, especially with Trent. We cannot push him through all of the games and we have the opportunities to change, so that’s why we did it at the back.

‘Offensively, Daniel is back and that’s good news.

‘I think it makes sense after a very good period pre-season then a short break with a little muscle thing that we bring him in immediately and try to use his quality. That’s the plan.’

Salah will no doubt start the game against Hoffenheim with Klopp opting to rest several players.

Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Emre Can are all on the bench after playing two games in four days.

The changes give opportunities to Andrew Robertson and Joe Gomez to impress in defence with the former making his debut for Liverpool after a summer move from Hull.
