Chelsea summer signing Alvaro Morata believes the nature of the Premier League makes it the ‘best’ division for strikers.

The 24-year-old completed a £70million move to Stamford Bridge last month and opened his account for the Blues in last weekend’s shock defeat to Burnley.

Morata enjoyed spells with Juventus and Real Madrid before joining Chelsea but admits he has always been excited by the prospect of playing in England.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham, the Spain international told Sky Sports: ‘For a striker it’s the best league I think.

‘You have many chances to score a goal. It’s a little bit crazy matches compared to the other leagues.

‘Probably in Italy or Spain when you have 1-0 or 2-0 teams they come and finish the match.

‘But here in some matches there are seven goals. It’s wonderful for a striker and for supporters.’

Morata arrived at Chelsea with an exciting reputation but endured a difficult debut for the club against Arsenal in the Community Shield.

Missing a penalty in the shootout which Arsenal won, Morata admits he turned to his wife after his difficult start in the English capital.

‘My feelings when I arrived is not good,’ he added. ‘I fail with this penalty.

‘It [the Community Shield] is important for this team and this club, it’s a trophy. My feeling is I’m new in this team and new in the Premier League.

‘It’s just beginning for me but I can think all the day on this thing, the penalty.’

‘I talk to my wife, “this weekend I make a goal sure”, because I need to change the mentality and I need to turn the situation, to say to all the supporters and all the people “I am here and I am not scared to fail the penalty or to play bad”.’
