Nemanja Matic insists Manchester United are ready to handle the pressure situations this season following their emphatic start to the Premier League campaign.

Successive 4-0 victories over West Ham and Swansea have ensured Jose Mourinho’s side sit top of the table after two games.

Despite their early success, Mourinho admits United will not always find it so easy and await more challenges as the season progresses.

But Matic, who joined United from Chelsea earlier in the summer, is confident the team can cope with the pressure and continue to impress.

‘In football there is always pressure,’ Serbian midfielder Matic said.

‘You can ask the players from Swansea and they will also feel the pressure because they have a lot of supporters who come to see them in every match.

‘At Manchester United it’s always special when you play for this club. There is always pressure, but we are ready to cope with that.’

Matic cost Mourinho over £40million but the defensive midfielder appears to have been a shrewd signing after Chelsea surprisingly agreed to sanction his exit.

And the 29-year-old insists he is delighted to be at Old Trafford and hopes to play a prominent role in a successful season.

‘I’m happy to be here, I really enjoy it,’ Matic added. ‘We are all friends in the changing room and that’s very important.

‘The season is long, we have a great squad and good communication. I’m happy to be part of this. This is just the beginning but I am confident.

‘It was important for our confidence not to concede a goal. When you do that it means you’re concentrated and that you fight for every ball.

‘If you defend well in attack you will always have some opportunities during the 90 minutes. I’m happy we used four of them.’
