Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo returned to first-team training today just over four months to the day since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.

The Argentine required knee surgery after a nasty twist in United’s 2-1 win against Anderlecht in the Europa League in April.

The 27-year-old was initially expected to leave club after Jose Mourinho’s appointment at Old Trafford but he impressed in the absence of Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling midway through the season.

Rojo is not expected to be match fit for at least another month but he was able to participate in training with his team-mates today as United prepare for the visit of Leicester City on Saturday.

United registered their second 4-0 win in as many games with an emphatic win against Swansea on Saturday and the Red Devils are currently top of the league.

Luke Shaw and Ashley Young played for an hour for the club’s U23s on Monday night and were also present in first-team training at Carrington.
