Chelsea striker Diego Costa could still seal a move away from the club this week as reports claim the player’s agent is in talks over a loan to Fenerbahce before tomorrow’s Turkish transfer deadline.

The Spain international was widely expected to move to Atletico Madrid in the summer, but failed to agree a deal in time due to complications over wages and the La Liga side’s transfer ban.

Costa is still expected to leave Chelsea in January, but could also be handed a lifeline for the first half of this season as his agent looks to negotiate him a temporary move to Turkey.

According to the London Evening Standard, Costa’s lawyer Ricardo Cardoso has been in Istanbul this week to discuss the possibility of a deal that could be a big relief for Chelsea.

The Blues have left Costa out of their Champions League squad and seemingly have little plan to integrate the 28-year-old back into their squad after a fall-out between him and manager Antonio Conte.

Conte informed Costa via text at the end of last season that he was no longer in his first-team plans, with Alvaro Morata signed from Real Madrid this summer as a like-for-like replacement up front.

Costa himself has long admitted his desire is to return to Atletico, but a loan move could be ideal to ensure he gets away from Stamford Bridge but maintains his match fitness until the chance opens up for him to move to the Spanish capital again in January.

Fenerbahce are said to be willing to pay a significant chunk of Costa’s £150,000-per-week wages, but time is running out to get the deal over the line.

While the transfer window for Premier League clubs slammed shut last week, clubs in Turkey still have until tomorrow to finalise signings.
