Mohamed Salah has missed Liverpool’s open training session on the eve of their return to the Champions League group stage.

Jurgen Klopp’s side kick off their campaign in Europe by hosting Sevilla at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

But Salah was a notable absentee during Liverpool’s open session on Tuesday afternoon, with the club confirming that he was not at Melwood due to illness.

The £37 million summer signing from Roma started in Liverpool’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday but was replaced at half-time by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

When asked about Salah’s fitness after the defeat to City, Klopp said: ‘Salah is okay. He is completely okay.’

Ben Woodburn was another absentee from training alongside Salah.

Lazar Markovic, meanwhile, did train despite not being included in Liverpool’s Champions League squad.
