The interest in Augmented Reality has risen exponentially in the past few years. When the term first surfaced, the majority of people didn’t really know what it involved. After the Pokemon Go frenzy, many of them finally understood how cool this technology can be. Probably this is why the majority of smartphone manufacturers nowadays try to include support for augmented reality into their handset. Unfortunately, without an equally supportive software, only the hardware usually seems to prove insufficient. At this point, the iOS 11 operating system is probably the best for augmented reality. Apple released the new version of its operating system a month ago, and ever since then, users got to try out the new features, including the ones related to augmented reality.
Apple included support for ARKit into the latest version of its software. he ARKit consists of a suite of developer tools and framework. This allows developers to create new augmented reality apps and games. Naturally, over time, these will get more and more immersive and interesting for users. While some apps only allow users to place different objects into their surroundings or try on wigs and makeup, others take users to another dimension. Actually, they bring the other dimension to the user, instead of taking them there. There are lots of augmented reality games now available for iOS running smartphones that take advantage of augmented reality. Some of them bring the battle into your living room, others allow you to raise your own little pet dragon. Every one of them is extremely entertaining.
One of the best things about the augmented reality support of iOS 11 is the fact that the ARKit will be supported by a great number of handsets. basically, all the iPhones that will get the upgrade will be able to support AR apps and games. Thankfully, the list of handsets that will get the iOS 11 upgrade includes a lot of devices. iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, and both iPhone 7 models will welcome these apps soon. Naturally, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus also run iOS 11, so they will be perfect for augmented reality apps and games too. The iPhone X is no exception from the rule either.
Apple really seems to be invested in further developing the iOS 11’s support for augmented reality. The only software that could be greater would probably be the iOS 12 we will see next year. Until then, developers will most likely send a ton of new AR games and apps our way. There are Android devices too with AR support, however, they just don’t seem to rise to the level of iOS running devices just yet.
