Qualcomm has finally announced the first Chipset in their new mid-range 700 series that was announced a few months ago – the Snapdragon 710.

This lineup is designed to be more powerful than the 600s but not quite there with the flagship 800s, giving both OEMs and consumers better options for upper mid-range devices.

As promised back in February, the Snapdragon 710 includes twice the AI performance compared to the Snapdragon 660, which Qualcomm says should offer improvements in a wide range of applications from voice-based user interfaces to photography and biometrics. Other parts, like the X15 LTE modem or Spectra 250 image processor, are stepped down versions of the more powerful X20 modem and Spectra 280 processor from the 800 line of chips.Having built it on the 10nm architecture, Qualcomm promises a 20 percent performance boost over the Snapdragon 660 along with significantly reduced power consumption, especially while watching videos or playing games.

It isn’t clear why Qualcomm is targeting this niche with the Snapdragon 710, but it’s likely meant for the Chinese market where big players like Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo can capitalize on such a product.
