Bungie Starting Development on Destiny 3, Will Be More Hardcore and RPG Focused [RUMOR]

According to Reddit insider AnonTheNine, who's well respected in the Destiny community, Bungie is now beginning to work on Destiny 3. The game will apparently feature Europa as a playable location - as you might remember, the above concept art of Europa was first showcased by Bungie during the first Destiny reveal press conference in February 2013.

AnonTheNine also provided additional details, such as that Destiny 3 will be more hardcore than even the last expansion, Forsaken, and feature even more RPG elements. Furthermore, he teased that Guardians will be able to 'use' Darkness in some ways; last but not least, there would be open world areas with both PvP and PvE content, a first for the franchise. The insider said these would be areas where players can fight to conquer territory rather than something like The Division's Dark Zone.

Nope. The development is starting right now. Chris Barrett game director. Luke Smith still there in a big role.

Guardians using Darkness. Open World PvPvE areas.

I've never said it would be like that joke that the Dark Zone is. Never. Think more about it like fight for a territory, where PvP is there for a reason and not for griefing the heck out of people.

Thank you. Just know that Destiny 3 will be even more "hardcore-y" than Forsaken. And finally they're going to push the RPG side of the game.

Destiny 2 vanilla was their idea from the beginning. The "reboot" didn't change that, the game was born to be for casuals. If Destiny 3 will really have the ideas they want to implement, trust me, a lot of Guardians who play two hours per week will abandon the game. They are going balls out with the RPG stuff.

Bungie recently released Destiny 2: Forsaken, widely considered as a major improvement to the base Destiny 2 game. Here's what Jorge wrote in his review:

Forsaken makes some smart changes to the Destiny 2 formula. Killing off Cayde-6 kicked off Season Two in a big way with more content every couple of months for the rest of this year heading into the summer of 2019. Destiny 2: Forsaken feels like Bungie has found a way to please both the casual and hardcore player, at least for now. Still, as much as I really loved my time with Destiny 2: Forsaken, I can see some new players being slightly intimidated by the content and not being as emotionally invested in some of the more emotional story beats.

Should the developer follow the same pattern used for the first game, we can expect additional DLC (AnonTheNine says there'll be a new annual pass in 2019) coming out next year and then Destiny 3 in September 2020, which incidentally is also around the time when next-generation consoles are expected to hit.
