He said: 'I felt very sad and frustrated by last season because we did not win any competition but I'm sure next year under Jose Mourinho will be different.

'I'm not sorry to have swapped Manchester for Madrid though I confess to missing the city where for six years I grew, matured and was very happy.'

Ronaldo did not score in the World Cup qualifying campaign but the Portugal promised: 'I am sure I will score goals and help Portugal to win games in South Africa.'

Portugal will face Brazil, Ivory Coast and North Korea and Ronaldo said: 'I believe that we were in the toughest group.

'In my opinion the game with the Ivory Coast, because it is the first, will be crucial. We have a single goal which is to enter and win the race. This will not be easy, we all know, but we have all the qualities to move forward.

'If we overcome the group stage, as I believe will happen, 50 percent of the objective will be achieved. Then we'll see what we can achieve. The squad is motivated and has a strong collective which is important.

'I have an immense pride that I still cannot really describe about playing for Portugal.  It's a great honour. It's my country, it is my nation, my homeland that I am representing. I still shiver whenever I hear the anthem and I am sure that will continue.'
