Zinedine Zidane has criticised France coach Raymond Domenech and said "there is no teamwork" among the players in Les Blues' World Cup squad. After France disappointed in their opening game of the World Cup, a 0-0 draw with Uruguay, former France captain Zidane was despondent. He told French television's Canal Plus that Domenech "is not a coach". And Zidane added that the players "must take responsibility for themselves" and "must put their ego to one side". Zidane scored twice in the final when France won the World Cup in 1998. He also helped France win the European Championship in 2000 and inspired France to the World Cup final in 2006 before being sent off in the defeat by Italy.

France will have the opportunity to make amends for their uninspiring start when they take on Mexico in their second Group A match in Polokwane on Thursday. Domenech is in an unusual position with the France Football Federation having announced prior to the tournament that he will be replaced as manager by Zidane's World Cup winning team-mate Laurent Blanc after this summer's World Cup. Current boss Domenech has long bore the brunt of fans' frustrations following a disappointing Euro 2008 campaign where they picked up only one point from three games.
