As the world cup is underway in South Africa, the second most exciting discussion thread in the world of football right now is transfer activity. I've taken a look at the top English teams' strengths and weaknesses, and came up with a list of players they should focus on in this overwhelming transfer market.

Manchester City

Yaya Toure, James Millner, Juan Mata, Edin Dzeko.

Assuming Mancini persists with his 4-4-2 formation, Yaya Toure could complement Gareth Barry very well in central midfield. He is very athletic, reads the game well, and can dictate the game from deep positions.

James Millner has proven with England he can make the difference playing on the right wing, with his defensive abilities as well as impressive deliveries into the box. He will muscle up City's midfield as well as offer good balls into the area.

Juan Mata could take on the left wing—he is fast, skillful, and his trickery can be used against very compact and tight defenses.

Upfront, the ideal candidate to partner Carlos Tevez would be Edin Dzeko. He is a complete striker, and a better finisher than Carlos Tevez. Tevez is a great striker, just not the most athletic or the best finisher. Edin Dzeko will bring these qualities to City's lineup.

Arsenal

Simon Kjaer, Yohan Gourcuff, Gervinho, Hugo LLoris.

Arsenal need a new quality defender to partner up with Thomas Vermalean. Simon Kjaer could be just that, he has shown great potential in the calcio, and he could form a great partnership with Vermanlean who already established himself in the heart of Arsenal's defense.

It looks more and more as though Fabregas will be out of Arsenal this summer, and should that happen, Yohan Gourcuff could be the best player to replace him. The French midfielder would fit right into Arsenal's midfield as their playmaker and could partner Alex Song/Diaby in central midfield.

Gervinho is an exciting winger who has "Arsenal football style " written all over him. The Ivorian would electrify the Emirates with his amazing runs and dribbles playing on either flank of the field. Wenger could deploy him on the right hand side of midfield, play Arshavin on the left, and a front 2 involving Van Persie and Chamack.

Finally, getting a world class goal keeper is a must, and Hugo LLoris is just that, plus he is still young but has experience at the top level.

Manchester United

Stephane M'bia, Jovetic, Suarez.

Stephane M'bia is a versatile defensive midfielder. He seems equally at ease deep in midfield or in central defense where he played for Cameroon during the World Cup. His versatility would be a great asset for ManU where he would inject much needed pace and strength in midfield. He could also serve as cover for Ferdinand and Vidic, who struggled much of last season with injury.

Stevan Jovetic is exactly the type of offensive player ManU needs in midfield. He is good on the ball, has great passing abilities, good vision, and is a strong player. He would energize the ageing reds devils.

Luis Suarez was crowned as Europe's most prolific goal scorer last season. He is a terrific finisher, with great physical condition. He would be the perfect partner to Wayne Rooney upfront, allowing Rooney to roam freely across the front line.

Chelsea

Bastian Schweisteiger, Mezut Ozil, Sergio Aguero.

These 3 players would be the ultimate additions to the blues, and would definitely take Chelsea to their highest level possible. However, I believe Schweinsteiger and Aguero won't be released by their clubs just yet, so here are the players the blues should go after:

David Silva, Mezut Ozil, Kevin-Prince Boateng.

David Silva can play on either wing, as well as behind the strikers through the middle. He has all the skills Chelsea is looking for: vision, passing abilities, pace, and versatility.

Mezut Ozil is the World Cup player of the moment. The 21 year old German has been the revelation so far in this World Cup, and he would bring the playmaking abilities Ancelotti was desperately looking for last season.

Kevin Prince Boateng is another player who impressed last season with Portsmouth and is impressing even more now with Ghana in the World Cup. He is a box-to-box type midfielder, and at 23 years old, has the potential to develop into a Frank Lampard type player. In their usual 4-3-3 formation, Chelsea could play Lampard and Essien in deeper midfield positions, with Mezut organizing the game in front of them. David Silva could be deployed on the right flank, pairing with Malouda on the left and Drogba through the middle. K.P Boateng could come in as a sub or cover for either Lampard or Essien.

There you have it, now I'm curious to know what you think about these choices, and what you would do different, so put your manager hat on and let me know!
