Four-way fight: Europe's big guns want Ozil

Real Madrid have been forced into a move for Germany World Cup star Mesut Ozil.

The Spanish giants wanted Ozil to see out the remaining 12 months of his contract at Werder Bremen and sign on a free transfer next summer.

But as Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona fight over the 21-year-old, Real have been forced to bring their plans forward and table a bid.

The Germans are demanding around £13million for Ozil but the Bernabeu outfit, according to reports in Spain, will sit down and negotiate.

Real have cash at their disposal after Inter Milan blocked their attempts to sign Maicon although Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho has agreed a deal to move to the Spanish capital.

Ozil has been linked with the biggest clubs in Europe since playing a key part in Germany's march to the semi-finals of the World Cup in South Africa and the player is reported to have his heart set on a move to Barcelona.

However, the Catalans' main priority, after failing to land Cesc Fabregas, is a defensive midfielder after Yaya Toure's move Manchester City left only Sergio Busquets in that position at the Nou Camp.

United's website has a template for Ozil's profile among their first team but the club have put this down to a technical error.

Old Trafford manager Sir Alex Ferguson did watch Ozil in a recent friendly at Fulham while Chelsea are keeping a close eye on developments.
