Arsenal, Man United, and Five Clubs Hoping to Land Mesut Ozil

0 of 7

Rumors surrounding Mesut Ozil have been bickered back and forth for the entire summer transfer window.

The soccer world is watching this young German star as he decides which of the top clubs in the world will sign him.

It is apparent Ozil wishes to leaver his current club, Werder Bremen, because he turned down a chance to re-sign with the club. It is likely Werder Bremen will sell Ozil to receive money for the 21-year-old, instead of losing him to free agency next season.

The two teams we have all heard of, Arsenal and Manchester United, have clearly expressed their interest in signing Ozil.

Klaus Allofs, Werder Bremen's director, has in fact confirmed Mesut Ozil may be leaving the club this summer, but has stated there have been no "official" offers for the star yet.

It is all opinion and gossip at this point, but there are big name clubs all over the world who would cherish the opportunity to help this young star develop into one of the premier players in the world.

Here are the top teams with their fingers crossed in hopes of signing Mesut Ozil (in no particular order).

Real Madrid

A top contendor in the Ozil talks, Real Madrid has frequently expressed their interest in Ozil.

They have even gone as far as urging Ozil not to sign with a team in the Barclays Premier League, such as Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United.

Real Madrid already has a talented roster, and like any other team, would benefit from signing Ozil.

However, Real Madrid are one of the teams who will most likely lose out in the Mesut Ozil sweepstakes.

Manchester City

Manchester City have been a busy team this transfer season, and rumor has it they are looking to add Mesut Ozil as well.

City are determined to bring together a winning team, and manager Roberto Mancini has already brought in star players Carlos Tevez, Jerome Boateng, Yaya Toure, and David Silva.

Mancini is interested in the young star, and Ozil would be a welcome addition to an already talented Manchester City roster.

Bayern Munich

One of the top Bundesliga squads year in and year out, Bayern Munich would be one of the most comfortable environments for Mesut Ozil.

He wouldn't have to be far from home, as Ozil already plays for Werder Bremen, which is also a German squad.

Bayern Munich would be a tremendous upgrade in competition, and he wouldn't have to leave his home.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Muller, and Miroslav Klose already play for the squad, and an Ozil addition would reunite the players from the 2010 FIFA World Cup squad that was so succesful.

With Schweinsteiger, Ozil, Muller, and Ribery in the midfield, teams would have nightmares about stopping this talented, and powerful lineup.

Not only are they interested, but Bayern Munich makes the most sense for Mesut Ozil.

Chelsea

Always near the top of the Barclays Premier League, Chelsea are one of the teams who have shown the most interest in Mesut Ozil.

They have already had an offer denied by Ozil's current club, Werder Bremen, but it won't be that easy to keep Chelsea away.

Chelsea are a team who are always looking for new ways to win the Premier League, and an Ozil addition is a goal they are hoping to achieve this transfer season.

Arsenal

Arsenal were one of the first teams who expressed their interest in the young German star.

After the conclusion of the 2010 FIFA World Cup back in July, Arsenal were already urging Ozil to join.

Manager Arsene Wenger is gifted in developing young talent, as can be seen with Thierry Henry.

Ozil would grow to become one of the best midfielders in the world under Wenger, and he could quite possibly be suiting up as a gunner this season.

FC Barcelona

    Let's face it.

Barcelona are always interested in adding new, young players who have the potential to become international stars.

They already bolstered their already talented squad by adding one of the most dangerous forwards in the world, David Villa.

Once Ozil put himself out there with a terrific World Cup performance, Barcelona became interested, naturally.

Barcelona has offered to sign Ozil, and loan him to Werder Bremen for a season.

Ozil has been urged to join Barcelona by his German coach, Joachim Low, when he told the youngster joining Barcelona would be the best decision for him right now.

It appears this is a good deal for both parties, because Werder Bremen wants to keep Ozil for one more season, and Barcelona obviously wants to sign him.

Not only would it work for both parties, but most importantly, it works for Mesut Ozil.

He said, “They’ve always had the best players. Playing for Barcelona has always been my dream and some day I hope to achieve it.”

Manchester United

"It is possible that there is now a bit of movement on the issue."

That is what Klaus Allofs, the director of Werder Bremen, told the Kreiszeitung Skye newspaper on the topic of Mesut Ozil's departure out of the Bundesliga Club.

It could be a trick from computer hackers, or it could be the real thing. But on the official Manchester United website, Ozil has been added to the roster.

Not only is he on the website, but Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United's manager, was seen watching a game between Werder Bremen and Fullham this past Saturday.

Was it to get a look at Mesut Ozil, or Fullham?

Ferguson denies the talks involving his interest in Ozil, but managers and head coaches are usually secret with talks surrounding possible transactions involving their teams.

All we know right now is the talks are heating up, and we are getting closer to finding out the next destination for Mesut Ozil.
