Premier League Team of the Week: Gareth Bale, Didier Drogba Do It Again

Goalkeeper: Jussi Jaaskelainen - Bolton

Bolton’s No. 1 showed once again why he was an absolute steal for just £100k. The Finnish goalkeeper made numerous top quality saved including stopping Carlton Cole from the penalty spot.

Bolton went on to win the game quite comfortably, but it could have been a different game if Jussi was not up to the task early on in the game.

His long kick-outs also helped Bolton net twice. If it were hockey he would have ended the game with two assists.

Right Back: Bacary Sagna - Arsenal

Arsenal’s right back had a good days outing against Blackpool. He was strong defensively and let little to nothing get the better of him despite playing beside makeshift centre back Alex Song.

He also did his bit going forward helping Theo Walcott dominate the game on the right hand side.

Centre Back: Brede Hangeland - Fulham

Despite scoring an own goal, Hangeland still deserves his spot in this team. For the majority of the game he had Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov under control.

As for the own goal, there was very little he knew about it and the ball just struck off him. If he were replaced with any other outfield player the result would have been the same.

He did show great strength and charterer to go down the other end and blast a thunderous header past Edwin Van Der Saar to save a point for his side and to save his own blushes.

Centre Back: Scott Dann - Birmingham

Scott Dann put in yet another creditable performance for Birmingham and is quickly becoming one of the most underrated centre backs in the Premier League.

He was solid in front of Ben Foster and handled his defense tasks with relative ease. He was also a menace in Blackburn’s penalty area and if not for a great reflex save by Paul Robinson he could have put his name on the score sheet.

Left Back: Jose Enrique - Newcastle

Some may have predicted the outcome, but no one could have foreseen the result. Newcastle dismantled Aston Villa and put six goals past them at St. James’ Park, and Jose Enrique played his part.

He was solid at the back and let nothing get the better of him from what was a potent Villa attack the weekend prior.

He also tormented Villa going forward and was a persistent threat on the flank.

Right Midfield: Theo Walcott - Arsenal

Arsenal fans will be asking Theo to serve up some more of this type of play in the future. Blackpool could not do anything about Theo Walcott. His pace, passing, and shooting were all perfect.

Walcott put some balls across that reached his teammates that in other games would have hit the corner flag, but the most impressive part of his display was his finishing. He was quick and accurate which lead to him picking up a hat trick and a much-deserved man of the match.

Centre Midfield: Gareth Barry - Manchester City

There was a lot of hype going into the Manchester City-Liverpool tie, but none of the hype or expectation for the game really came to light.

Manchester City dominated the game and Gareth Barry deserves the majority of the credit for the job he done in front of his back four.

Barry broke up everything that Liverpool tried to put together through the middle of the pitch. He also put the ball around the pitch nicely and opened the scoring for City, who once they got the lead the game never seemed in doubt.

Centre Midfield: Kevin Nolan - Newcastle

There are very few games that Kevin Nolan will play in were he scores two goals, plays a major role in nearly everything that his team did going forward, yet is over shadowed by his frontman, but that is exactly what happened in Newcastle’s 6-0 win over Aston Villa.

Nolan played just off Andy Carroll, in the hole and tormented Villa all game long. Aston Villa’s Stiliyan Petrov will be delighted if he never has to try mark Nolan again.

Left Midfield: Gareth Bale - Tottenham

England may be looking at yet another left-sided Welshman who they could only dream of having in their midfield. Gareth Bale had yet another top class game for Spurs and scored both of his team’s goals to earn them the win.

Stoke struggled to contain Bale, who relished playing on the left with just Peter Crouch ahead of him.

Some may argue that Bale was lucky to score the first goal as an attempted clearance from Ryan Shawcross rebounded of his face and into the net, but I would say that it was his determination that put him in the position to have the ball rebound of his face.

Either way there is no disputing luck for his second goal. Bale's sweetly left-footed volley is already a contender for goal of the season.

Forward: Didier Drogba - Chelsea

Chelsea’s front man was obviously tried of scoring after hitting a hat-trick against West Brom in the opening weekend, so instead he set up three goals against Wigan.

Wigan would have been happy before the game to think that they could go the entire game without allowing Drogba score. But I doubt they will be too happy with him setting up three goals.

Drogba was unmarkable, and Wigan just could not handle him. When the backed off him he just swiveled and put in a peach of a cross, and when they closed him down he spun his defender and broke towards goal, both of which lead to assists for the Ivorian.

Forward: Andy Carroll - Newcastle

Wearing the No. 9 jersey playing for Newcastle can never be an easy burden to carry, but Carroll certainly made it look that way against Aston Villa.

Andy Carroll was certainly trying to put his name in the hat for a spot in Fabio Capello’s England side with a beautiful hat-trick against Villa, each goal showing a different aspect of his game.

His first was a regular poachers goal. His second showed his vision, as he was able to read the game and get a step on his defender and connect sweetly with the ball as it dropped to him.

The third was just fantastic play. On the halfway line he knocked a beautiful cross-field ball to Xisco. He then drove into the box to finish off the move his began and pick up his hat-trick.
