David Beckham still hopeful of making England comeback

David Beckham has reiterated his desire to play for England again despite Fabio Capello suggesting the former captain's international career is over.

Before England played Hungary in August, the Italian coach said Beckham was "too old" to play for his country again adding that the time was right to inject a little youth into the squad.

Reacting to Capello's comments, Beckham released a statement saying he would always be available for England, and, in the aftermath of winning the US title with the LA Galaxy on Sunday, has once again confirmed his availability to help England's Euro 2012 campaign.

"I'd love to continue to play. Whether I do or not, that is obviously down to the manager and obviously down to myself to performance," he said. "With the injury that I've had you have to give it a certain amount of rest."

When asked if he though Capello had treated him fairly by labelling him too old on television, Beckham added: "He's a fair man. He gives everyone a chance."

His desire for international football may be halted by his own decision not to go on loan to a European team like he did with AC Milan the last two years to keep fit during the MLS off-season.

When Beckham first moved to the States, Capello made it very clear he would have to arrange a temporary deal to keep his England hopes alive, however, following the Achilles injury which ruled him out of the World Cup, Galaxy won't allow another loan.

With one year remaining on his contract with the MLS club, Beckham has committed himself to playing for just one club but admits he has no idea what will happen when his Galaxy contract expires next year.

"I want to play as long as my legs can take me," he said. "I know it sounds a cliche, but I love playing football, I love playing the game, it's my passion. When I stop enjoying it then I'll know I need to stop.

"I'm definitely going to be here for the rest of my contract. My sons go to school here, we're all happy living here, so I can't see us moving."
