Sam Allardyce will be given top-10 target if Indian company Venky's buys Blackburn

Sam Allardyce will be expected to guide Blackburn to a top-10 finish in the Premier League this season if Indian poultry company Venky's completes its £40 million takeover at Ewood Park.

But the Blackburn Rovers manager is likely to be handed a summer transfer kitty in excess of the £6 million already pledged for the January transfer window should he succeed in repeating last season's 10th-place finish by steering the club to mid-table safety.

The takeover, which includes £25 million to the Walker Family Trust and £15 million to clear the club's debt, is expected to be finalised within a fortnight.

And having held strategic discussions with Rovers chairman John Williams over player recruitment, Venky's is prepared to back Allardyce's blueprint of combining transfers with loan deals comparable to those thrashed out by the club in recent seasons for the likes of El-Hadji Diouf, Gaël Givet, Franco di Santo and Mame Biram Diouf.

Venky's chairwoman Anuradha J. Desai said: "We won't need to buy expensive players, we can always lease [loan] them.

"And we don't expect to be in the top five of the Premier League. We will be happy to be in the top 10 to 12.

"We will pump in whatever is needed, but the main thing is to get the club back into good shape.

"The club has no major losses. That is not a major financial issue nor does it have accumulated debt. This is an investment and it will grow on its own strength."

Desai has confirmed that, by becoming the Premier League's first Indian owners, Venky's will aim to exploit the brand recognition of the league and the club to develop its poultry business.

She said: "Football is a global craze and as the V.H. Group globalises, setting up feed plants and hatcheries around the world, we believe we can benefit from being owners of a major football club.

"It will help build our brand."
