Bruce: Gordon save was as good as Banks

Steve Bruce has hailed Craig Gordon’s wonder save against Bolton and compared it to some of the best saves ever.

The Scottish stopper, on his return to the starting line-up, managed to turn Zat Knight’s flicked attempt over the bar despite being at point blank range to keep Sunderland’s slim 1-0 lead intact.

Bruce said: “That’s probably save of the season isn’t it? I’m delighted for Craig, I just hope now he can stay injury free and get that confidence back, what he had the back of last season because that was a wonderful save.

“It was brilliant, a brilliant save as good as you’ll see. Dare I say Banks? Jim Montgomery?”
