Reports suggested that City had already begun talks with the Bosian, with a figure of around €35 million said to be touted.

The transfer window reopens next month but City are yet to go on the record to confirm this interest, with Kidd the latest figure to cool the rumours.

"At the moment it is just speculation," he said. "The window hasn't opened. It's the usual story isn't it, 'No buy, no sell, no tales to tell.' At the moment it's just speculation with a lot of players being thrown in the pot.

"There is only one man who decides that, and that's the boss [Roberto Mancini]. I don't think it's right to speak about other players at other clubs."

While Kidd refused to say whether Dzeko was a target, he did concede that the club are interested in "exploring" the transfer market.

City are currently level on points with Manchester United at the top of the Premier League but have considerably more transfer muscle than any of their title rivals.

"We know we aren't the finished article, even though we are playing quite well," Kidd said.

"The boss will want the best because he wants to be a winner, and the club wants to be a winner. We will explore every avenue.

"It's about getting the right players, what positions are we looking for? The boss will decide that. If he feels he can improve the squad, if there is a player available, then I think he will explore that. But the lads have done very well.

"I wouldn't swap our squad now for anybody in the Premier League, to be honest. I wouldn't swap any of our lads for anybody else in the top four or five in the league."
