Van Der Wiel is a product of the illustrious Ajax youth academy and has developed into a key player at the Godenzonen both at International and Club level. The Netherlands international has made well over 100 official appearances for Ajax so far.

According to sport.co.uk, Ajax right-back Gregory Van Der Wiel would be available for transfer and a number of clubs are vying for his signature. Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are the Premier League contenders trying to get their man whereas Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also in with a shout.

Hakin Slimani, the agent of the player, has stated that most of the clubs who’re looking to sign Van Der Wiel already have an established right-back and hence, it would be difficult to suggest his destination at this point of time

The defender's current contract with Ajax runs until the summer of 2013, but he reportedly has a limited fee release clause of £12million.

According to a report published in De Telegraaf, Barcelona was tracking the defender and Pep Guardiola seems to be a fan of the defender. However, that was before Dani Alves signed his contract extension.

With Dani Alves now hooked with the club, it would be interesting to see if Pep actually tries to lure the Dutchman to Camp Nou.

Van Der Wiel would also not like the idea of playing second fiddle to the Brazilian, and if his agent is to be believed, then it's probably not the ideal place for the talented right-back.

A call to fellow Dutchman Ibrahim Afellay might be a good idea.

4. Arsenal

Last season, Van Der Wiel admitted that he would be delighted to play at Arsenal alongside Dutch compatriot Robin Van Persie.

Arsenal has in the past featured a number of Dutch players in their squad and Arsene Wenger is an admirer of the Dutchman's qualities who is also capable of playing at center-back.

But it would be interesting to see if Arsene Wenger would be prepared to meet the player's buy-out clause, as in the past Arsene has been reluctant to spend a lot when it comes to acquiring expensive players from across Europe.

Time to shift a gear perhaps.

3. Bayern Munich

Van der Wiel was linked with a move to Bayern last summer, but the deal fell through. The 23-year-old is considered a top prospect to join the Bavarians and add some much-needed support in defense.

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has urged his club to sign the right-back when the transfer window reopens.

Robben and van der Wiel have formed an impressive partnership for the Dutch national team during the last year. With the pair in position on the right side, the Netherlands finished runners-up at the 2010 World Cup losing out to Spain in the Final.

With Van Gaal out of the picture, it would be interesting to see if Bayern Munich actually pursue their interest in the defender.

2. Manchester United

Reports suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson has added van der Wiel to his wanted list as he looks to bolster his back four options at Old Trafford ahead of next season.

Rafael da Silva could be challenged for the right-back spot at Old Trafford, and Sir Alex would be prepared to pay the price to lure the defender to Old Trafford.

With Brown under achieving and O'Shea struggling with fitness problems, the Dutch right-back would certainly strengthen the defensive backline.

1. Chelsea

Chelsea are stepping up their efforts to land Ajax right-back Gregory van Der Wiel, and with Jose Bosingwa reportedly on his way out, Roman Abramovich is more than ready to bankroll £12million to get his man!

Chelsea's previous No. 1 target, Dani Alves, has already signed a contract extension at FC Barcelona and with the player unlikely to move Van Der Wiel seems to be the likely No. 1 for the right-back position.

Hakin Slimani, the agent of the player, has revealed that there's no done deal at the moment and all the big clubs looking for his player's signature have established right-backs.

With Bosingwa most likely to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, Van Der Wiel's next destination could most likely be Stamford Bridge.
