Alex Ferguson has told the media that Chelsea are their main title rivals after the Blues went second, level on points with Arsenal.

And who is to argue with Ferguson?

Arsenal have been poor throughout the season. Despite the flurry of beautiful football and the way the team creates chance after chance, which seemed to have blinded Arsene Wenger to choose football over trophy. Arsenal are lacking a winning mentality, a physical togetherness and some dogged fighters in the side.

How many chances do Arsenal want to catch up with United?

The result against Tottenham was another sign that Arsenal cannot hold on to a lead or even two goals lead and see the game off. That is a big worry for the manager even if he is being stubborn over future signings.

Arsenal were one nil up at Sunderland when they drew 1-1 courtesy of a late strike by Darren Bent.

Arsenal were two nil up against Spurs at the Emirates and lost the game 2-3 thanks to a late header by Younes Kaboul.

Arsenal traveled to Newcastle and ripped them apart in the first half, going 4-0 up. Everyone thought it was game over, the home fans already going home. Yet somehow, Arsenal ended the game with a 4-4 draw in which Tiote scored a emphatic volley in the last minute.

Arsenal draw blank at home against a Blackburn side that was leaking goals. The Gunners go one nil up against Liverpool at home in the 98th minute, and still cannot hold on as Liverpool scored a penalty in controversial circumstances.

And last week, Arsenal are 3-1 up against Tottenham at White Hart Lane and draw, 3-3.

The results show that there has been too many points lost because the Gunners cannot hold on to their lead. It is inevitable that Vermaelen missing virtually the whole season has affected Arsenal.

But the Gunners still remain six points adrift which is not impossible as long as they win all their games. The other top two have also dropped points throughout the season, meaning the title is anyone's to win, although Manchester United are in the strongest positions.

In my opinion, this season will not be ours and it will not be a good day for the fans until Arsene Wenger sells and buys in three ready-made players to bolster the squad.

Do not misinterpret my views on Arsene Wenger. He is the right man for Arsenal football club and for the future of the club. If Wenger leaves,  I fear a mass exodus would take place at the Emirates.

But his recent comments in the media do worry me as it is evident Arsenal need some defensive cover.
