The Germans are launching a major offensive on the Bundesliga next season with a transfer war chest of £100m.

Gunners midfielder Nasri is one of the big names on the hit-list, Bayern believing they can prise the 23-year-old away from the Emirates following another frustrating season in which Arsene Wenger’s side have failed to win any silverware.

It would be a huge blow to Arsenal if Nasri can be snatched away from London, with Wenger already facing a fight to hold on to skipper Cesc Fabregas.

It’s why Wenger himself is ready to dip into the transfer pool in a big way.

He has identified Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Gotze, 18, as a potential replacement for Fabregas, who is wanted by Barcelona and Real Madrid – although Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke has said: “Mario is not for sale at any price. We won’t sell him for several oilfields.”

Wenger revealed that his assistant, Pat Rice, has agreed to stay another year after earlier threatening to hang up his boots following an incredible 46 years at the club.

Rice, 62, was expected to go at the end of the season after suffering problems with his eyesight.

But Wenger said: “Pat will continue one more year.

“The day he stops will be a massive loss to the club.”
