Arsenal Transfer Rumours: 8 Potential Additions Who Will Bring the EPL Title

0 of 8

Arsenal look set to spend big this summer as they try to end their trophy drought and win the Premier League, with the likes of Eden Hazard and Gervinho touted with moves to the Gunners.

And it's clear Arsene Wenger will indeed have to splash the cash this summer if his side are to finally end their six-year wait for a major honour, with rivals Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea all set to strengthen their squads significantly ahead of the new season.

So with that in mind, here are eight potential additions to the Arsenal squad which could bring the Gunners the Premier League title.

Juan Mata

Linked with a club record £18 million switch to Arsenal, Valencia winger Juan Mata could well be the player the Gunners need to take them to the Premier League title.

With the club's current wingers Andrei Arshavin and Theo Walcott having disappointing seasons, Mata would represent a significant improvement in quality on the flanks for Arsenal, while he could also replace the seemingly FC Barcelona bound Cesc Fabregas, having proved his capability of being a playmaker.

Having scored eight goals and made 12 assists from the wings last season in La Liga, Mata is a player who could well take Arsenal to the next level.

Christopher Samba

Consistently linked with Arsenal throughout the summer transfer window so far, Blackburn Rovers' Christopher Samba is the man to solve the Gunners' centre-back problem.

With Laurent Koscielny and Sebastian Squillaci failing to impress in their debut seasons at the Emirates, the signing of Samba would give Arsenal the thing they were lacking in central defence throughout the 2010/11 campaign.

Power, strength, height, tough-tackling and with superior aerial ability, the addition of Christopher Samba to Arsenal's defence would take the Emirates outfit to a new level, and quite possibly the Premier League title.

Mahamadou Diarra

Recently linked with a surprise move to the Gunners, former Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra could well be the man to end Arsenal's trophy drought.

An experienced, world class professional having impressed at clubs like Real Madrid, Lyon and AS Monaco, 30-year-old Diarra would bring all the tactical ideas, training tips, playing tips and that winning mindset that comes with huge experience at the very highest level, with his experience potentially a vital asset to Arsenal both on and off the field.

Not only that, but Diarra also adds something Arsenal have often lacked in midfield; defensive discipline, the ability to out-muscle midfield opponents, and the sort of controlled aggression which intimidates the opposition.

Available on a free transfer, Mahamadou Diarra could represent the perfect signing for Arsene Wenger.

Samuel Eto'o

Rumoured at one time to be part of the deal to take Cesc Fabregas to Serie A, Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o would be the perfect addition up front for Arsenal.

The Gunners create several goalscoring chances throughout almost every game, but as their season has proved, they have trouble putting them away when it really matters, with only Robin Van Persie in the attacking department having a good season personally.

Simply put, Arsenal need more goals, and one man who is virtually guaranteed to deliver them that is Eto'o, who scored 37 goals for Inter last season, 21 of which were in Serie A, the most defensively tight league in Europe.

That, combined with the winning mentality Eto'o has gained from successful spells with FC Barcelona and Inter, mean that this striker is the perfect marquee striker for Arsene Wenger's squad.

Rolando

Once an £18 million target for Manchester United, before his breakout campaign in the 2010/11 treble-winning season for Porto, centre-back Rolando is another player who can solve Arsenal's problem in central defence.

A classy centre-back, Rolando would fit Arsenal's style of play perfectly, as he looks to start play from defence and has great passing ability for a defender.

But the 25-year-old also adds the defensive dimensions the Gunners have been lacking; strength, goals from set-pieces, very precise tackling and a winning mentality.

A more expensive option than Christopher Samba, Rolando nonetheless would nothing but beneficial to Arsene Wenger and his team, with his or Samba's signing possibly being the key factor in potentially winning the Premier League.

Scott Parker

6 of 8

One thing Arsenal have lacked this season is a real leader, with captain Cesc Fabregas a player who leads more by example than anything else.

The importance of a true leader in a team can never be underestimated, and who better for Arsenal to have lead their team than Scott Parker, the player who held West Ham United together whenever he played.

As Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp said: "If you're going to keep progressing, (you need) that type of real character, who has opinions and that will to win around the dressing room—a few leaders. You can't have too many at your club."

Aside from his obvious on-pitch qualities as a dynamic box-to-box midfielder, Scott Parker is a player who can literally lead Arsenal to the Premier League title.

Karim Benzema

7 of 8

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema just had to be on this list. Consistently linked with a £26 million move to Arsenal, Benzema is a player, like Samuel Eto'o, who will give the Gunners the goals they were lacking last season.

Tall enough to hold off defenders, slender enough to break through defences and talented enough to coolly slot the ball past any goalkeeper, Karim Benzema has "Premier League striker" written all over him.

With the potential to be a huge success in England, Benzema could well be the forward to bring Arsenal the Premier League title.

Emilio Izaguirre

8 of 8

An old-fashioned left-back who knows perfectly how to combine attacking verve with defensive discipline, Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre was the stand-out player in the Scottish Premier League last season.

And with Kieran Gibbs yet to step up to the mark and Gael Clichy set to leave, Arsenal could definitely do with a new, marquee left-back, and Izaguirre could be that man.

A player who would add options in the final third when on the attack, and would be back defending when the opposition counter, Izaguirre would add a new dimension to Arsenal's wing play,

He'd make the back four tighter defensively with his discipline positionally, while the whole team would be more composed with his ability to rarely give away possession, and he'd the front three more space and options in the penalty area with his great movement in the opposition's final third.

And considering Arsenal focus quite considerably on wing play, emphasised by their 4-3-3 formation, signing Emilio Izaguirre might well be the most important defensive purchase for Arsenal this summer.
