World Football: Ranking the Top 5 Solo Wonder Goals of All Time (Video)

0 of 5

Sit back and enjoy their virtuoso brilliance as I run down my top five solo wonder goals of all time.

You could call them selfish, but is there a more thrilling thing in football than one man running through the entire opposition to score?

I'd suggest not, and here are a few examples that prove my point...

5. George Weah

1 of 5

There have been some truly great solo goals, but has any player run as far with the ball as George Weah for this one?

Playing for AC Milan against Verona in 1996, the Liberian shows the kind of talent that saw him win the Ballon d'Or the year before.

4. Ryan Giggs

2 of 5

It was the goal that kept Manchester United's treble dream going in 1999.

Ryan Giggs collects a misplaced pass from Patrick Vieira and runs past most of the Arsenal team to score a dramatic extra time winner in the FA Cup semifinal.

3. Lionel Messi

3 of 5

This Lionel Messi wonder goal against Getafe drew natural comparison with the great Diego Maradona.

Balance, incredible close control and a cool finish. It's eerily similar to the goal that occupies the No. 1 slot.

2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

4 of 5

It was 2004 and Zlatan Ibrahimovic was one of the most talked-about talents in Europe.

When he did this in a game against NAC Breda in Amsterdam, it's easy to see why.

1. Diego Maradona

5 of 5

Diego Maradona practically won the 1986 World Cup on his own for Argentina.

In the quarterfinal against England, he scored a controversial first, but his second was arguably the greatest goal ever committed to film.
