Liverpool Transfer Rumours: 5 Players the Reds Could Sign Before the Deadline

0 of 5

Liverpool has been very busy in this transfer market window, but it looks like the Reds are not quite finished.  Due to departures and injuries, manager Kenny Dalglish may have a few players that he would like to bring in before the window closes on the 31st.

Liverpool are on track to become top-four challengers, but a few more quality additions will ensure its place among the best sides in England again.  With the imminent signing of Sebastian Coates, I take a look at who else may be joining Liverpool in the next few days.

Craig Bellamy

The Welsh international may be in line for a shock return to Anfield.  Bellamy only had a brief stint playing for Liverpool during the 2006-07 season before departing to West Ham United.

Bellamy has since gone to Manchester City, where he was successful before City started spending loads of money on a lot of attacking players.  He eventually went on loan to Cardiff City, but will hope to return to the Premier League this season.

Liverpool would benefit by adding Bellamy because he would add depth and strength to the squad, and Bellamy would also benefit because he could see out his career playing in the Premier League.

Scott Dann

Even with the arrival of Sebastian Coates, Dalglish could sign Dann to add depth to Liverpool's defense.  The chances of him signing are slim, though.

Injury concerns for both Agger and Skrtel as well as Carragher's age could see Dalglish opt to sign the Birmingham player.  In addition, Kyrgiakos' departure to Wolfsburg means that Liverpool are without a squad defender from last season.

On the other hand, there are a few young center backs coming up through the academy, as well as Danny Wilson, who partnered Skrtel during the Exeter game yesterday.  These players are not quite ready to consistently in the first team, but it could mean that in a few seasons Liverpool will have too many center backs.

Gary Cahill

Cahill's chance of signing for Liverpool is slim like Dann's, but Cahill would be signed to be a consistent starter.  Dann could be more of a squad player, but Cahill will want to keep his place in the England squad so he will want game time.

In addition, Arsenal seem like favorites to sign Cahill.  The Gunners have needed a center back to partner Vermaelan, and Cahill seems like he would fit perfectly.  If Cahill leaves this season, then my money would be on a move the Emirates.

Yossi Benayoun

The former Red has really struggled since moving to Chelsea last summer.  He has been injured and has since fallen down the pecking order.  With the signing of Juan Mata, Benayoun can kiss goodbye any playing time he may have seen this year.

Benayoun will be looking for a way out of Chelsea, and with Liverpool loaning out Aquilani as well as just losing Meireles to injury, he might be a good replacement.  He could help provide cover on the wings or just behind the strikers.  With Chelsea trying to sell him in the Modric deal, there is a chance the Blues would be willing to sell him back to Liverpool.

Adam Johnson

5 of 5

Johnson seems the least likely to join because Manchester City will not want to sell a quality player to a rival club.  That being said, Johnson will struggle for a starting place this season with the addition of Aguero and Nasri crowding out others for attacking places.

Johnson may try to force his way out of Manchester, and Liverpool would be happy to add his services.  Both he and Downing are very talented wingers who can play on either side of the pitch, and having both on the field would provide a lot of service to Andy Carroll.  Johnson is also a few years younger than Downing, so he has yet to even reach his peak ability.
