August 2011: Premier League XI

0 of 11

With just under a month of Premier League action so far, we preview the top eleven performers in the league as per their first three matches.

Without looking too far ahead and making any major conclusions. There have been some outstanding performances already and with so much still to play for, we can only hope for more.

    Formation: 4-3-3

Manager of the Month: Sir Alex Ferguson

GK: Asmir Begovic (Stoke City)

1 of 11

The 24-year-old Bosnian has been at the top of his game in the first three games, only conceding one goal.

Stoke are currently ninth on the log with Liverpool to visit the Britannia this weekend. Many would wonder and hope for him to be at his best with the likes of Saurez and Downing to be key figures in the clash.

RB: José Bosingwa (Chelsea)

2 of 11

Like most other viewers, I also assumed Ivanovic would be the first choice right back for Chelsea, but it seems the Villas-Boas favors his countryman more. More importantly, he has been able to get the best out of Bosingwa.

The Portuguese international has also contributed with a goal to add to his excellent defensive duties. Looking at an overall team performance, Bosingwa has been one of Chelsea's best players going forward.

LB: Stephen Ward (Wolves)

3 of 11

Ward has been part of an exceptional team performance since the start of the season, as Wolves find themselves at number five on the log.

However, many would see the Wolves as one of the teams to fall away once they face some tougher competition.

Interestingly, two of their three games have been away, which speaks volumes for their defensive.

CD: Phil Jones (Manchester United)

4 of 11

In the absence of two of United's best defenders (Rio Ferdinand & Nemanja Vidic), the youngster has stood up to the task and performed admirably.

Having to play alongside Evans and Smalling, both of whom are relatively young and inexperienced, Jones seems to be one for the future.

Another important factor to mention is that Jones is playing in front of another inexperienced player in David De Gea.

CD: Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)

5 of 11

Amongst the top rated defenders in England, Kompany is made of steel and is key to the success of City as much as Dzeko is up front.

Kompany has reassured fans of his quality with excellent performances against Swansea and Spurs.

With Kolo Toure back in the mix, it will be an even stronger defensive guard for Mancini.

Mid: Ashley Young (Manchester United)

6 of 11

Making the move to Manchester United is never easy, especially when you're playing first team football. And now, coming to a club where the squad is oozing quality doesn't make it any easier.

Young had no issue with making an impact—the most important being his two goals against Arsenal.

Mid: David Silva (Manchester City)

7 of 11

At times you have to wonder what more you have to do to make the Spanish first team. David Silva has been the form player for City for sometime, arguably the best signing they have made.

Pulling the strings in the middle and last third, his ability and quality is at the top level and with outstanding strikers ahead of him, his services are hardly ever wasted.

Mid: Mattew Jarvis (Wolves)

8 of 11

Another excellent player from the Wolves team to make the list, his over-all game against Fulham is the stand-out performance.

An ankle injury could rule him unfit for the next game when Spurs will visit Wolves in what could be a very important matchone that will be key especially for Wolves.

ST: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

9 of 11

One of the big deals done this summer by City. One they hope will be consistent throughout the season.

Aguero made a massive announcement on his arrival with a some super goals, but has failed to score in City's away victory to Bolton.

The question many ask: Can the Argentine perform away against the tough English clubs?

    So far, so Good.

ST: Edin Dzeko (Manchester City)

10 of 11

Contributing six goals in three games, the Bosnian is on top of his game now more than ever.

Linking up with Y.Toure, Silva, Nasri and Aguero, it seems he's more willing and hungry this season. He could be the catalyst that Mancini needed.

He could also be the reason why Carlos Tevez and Balotelli find themselves on the bench for longer than they initially anticipated.

ST: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

11 of 11

Rooney is back to his best, scoring freely and playing with so much heart and desire. He has scored seven goals in the last couple weeks, five of which has come for club and two for country.

Since the departure of Ronaldo and Tevez, Rooney has always been seen as the key player in the side. Now playing alongside a rejuvenated squad of young players, his role is more important.
