Top 15 Most Spectacular Overhead Kicks Ever

0 of 15

There are very few more spectacular sights in football than a well-executed overhead kick.

When perfect timing, athleticism and technique come together, it often results in the most impressive goal of a player's career.

With hundreds of brilliant examples it's hard to narrow it down to a Top 10. I couldn't manage it, so here are 15 of the most spectacular overhead kicks ever.

Trevor Sinclair

1 of 15

When I decided to write this article, this was the first overhead kick that came to mind.

Trevor Sinclair scored this goal for QPR in 1997 during an FA Cup tie against Barnsley. It was talked about for weeks, and I wasted hours with friends trying to emulate it.

Trevor won the BBC Match of the Day "Goal of the Season"—all I got was a sore back!

Ronaldinho

2 of 15

In typical Barcelona fashion, this goal is preceded by loads of unnecessary passing and showing off. If you want to get straight to the goal, then skip to the 34 second mark.

This goal, against Villareal, is sheer class from Ronaldinho.

The chest control to tee up the overhead is especially impressive.

Dimitar Berbatov

3 of 15

This overhead by Dimitar Berbatov is a cracker.

The knee control is top drawer and finding the top corner gave the 'keeper no chance.

This goal is made even more impressive by the fact that it was part of a hat trick against arch rivals Liverpool in a 3-2 win.

Overhead X 2

4 of 15

This is certainly a one of a kind: Two players overhead kicking a ball simultaneously to score a goal!

Sebastian Romero and Marco Perez combined to score this tandem overhead kick goal for Gimnasia La Plata in Argentina.

Youri Djorkaeff

5 of 15

The angle Youri Djorkaeff manages to score this overhead from is amazing.

Sensational goal by the Frenchman whilst playing for Inter Milan.

Quite what the Roma defender was doing is beyond me!

Marco Fabian

6 of 15

This goal from Fabian for Chivas is an absolute classic.

It's a great build-up, a superb finish and it puts his team up 2-1 against the mighty Barcelona!

It may only have been a preseason game, but the young Mexican's finish was exquisite.

Peter Crouch

7 of 15

Peter Crouch has scored a surprising number of overhead kicks.

It seems amazing that an ungainly 6'7" man can execute such an acrobatic move.

This goal against Galatasaray for Liverpool is probably the pick of the bunch!

Wayne Rooney

8 of 15

An amazing overhead kick goal from last season by Wayne Rooney against fierce rivals Manchester City.

This goal made it 2-1 to Manchester United and turned out to be the winner.

Roger Boli

9 of 15

This was the first goal of a Roger Boli hat trick for Walsall against Southend in 1997.

Just goes to show you don't always have to go to the likes of Old Trafford or the Camp Nou to see amazing technique and skill!

Eliran Atar

10 of 15

This goal by Isreali forward Eliran Atar was shortlisted for the 2009 FIFA Puskas Award.

It's a great build-up and a really sweet strike, the reaction of the Bnei Yehuda coaching staff is priceless.

Marco Van Basten

11 of 15

The legendary Marco van Basten scored this effort against Den Bosch during his time at Ajax.

Amazing technique and he puts it right in the top corner—absolute genius!

Manuel Negrete

12 of 15

Chest, foot, head, overhead! Stunning control and finish by Negrete.

I was a little torn over which Negrete overhead kick to include, as he also scored this corker after a beautiful build-up!

Mauro Bressan

13 of 15

This Mauro Bressan wonder-goal for Fiorentina against Barcelona in 1999 is astounding.

Who even tries an overhead kick from 25 yards out?

One of the best Champion's League goals of all time!

Laurent Robert

14 of 15

    An overhead backheel!

I had the great pleasure of watching this goal live at St James' Park in 2004.

This sublime goal by Laurent Robert helped Newcastle to a 3-1 win over Fulham.

Rivaldo

15 of 15

This goal is astounding not just in it's beauty, but also in it's importance.

This was a last-minute goal, which gave Barcelona a 3-2 win over Valencia.

Barcelona needed the win to qualify for the Champion's League and the goal rounded off a spectacular hat trick for Rivaldo.

You can see all three of Rivaldo's goals from that game here.
