Manchester City striker Carlos Tévez likely to be sold in January transfer window

Carlos Tévez is set to meet Manchester City officials within the next 48 hours to give his account of his actions when apparently refusing to take the field as a substitute during the Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich last Tuesday.

The former City captain, suspended for two weeks by the club and the subject of an internal investigation into his behaviour, has denied manager Roberto Mancini’s claim that he refused to replace Samir Nasri as a 69th minute substitute in the Allianz Arena.

City have launched a detailed probe into the events in Munich, however, which will involve coaching staff and Tévez’s fellow substitutes being asked to give their account of the incident.

And Tévez has been detailed to give his side of the story to the HR team assigned by City acting chief executive John MacBeath to investigate the incident following an official complaint lodged by Mancini.

Tévez’s representatives have been told by City that the investigation should take no more than seven working days, with an outcome expected to reached by the end of this week.

While sacking Tévez for gross misconduct remains an option for City, it is understood that the likeliest outcome is an agreement for the player to be sold in January.

With Mancini having insisted that Tévez will ‘never’ play for City again, however, the club’s attacking options were hit further with Sergio Aguero limping out of Saturday’s game at Blackburn with a groin injury.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce said on Saturday that he would love to sign the player. “If he would like to join us and the chairman would like to pay for him then yes, why wouldn’t you want a top-class player like that?” he said.

“I’ve worked with some world-class players in my time, they win you games when you least expect it. With a goal record like his why wouldn’t you want him? I’ve had worse than him. I’ve had some bad ones in my time. Just keep playing him, that’s the answer.”
