Manchester United vs. Liverpool: Why Reds Can End United's Unbeaten Run

0 of 5

The stakes are high for both Manchester United and Liverpool as the two sides meet at Anfield in the Premier League.

Liverpool suffered something of a glitch with Premier League defeats to Stoke and Tottenham but have since returned to form and won their last three games.

Manchester United are unbeaten in the Premier League so far and will be looking to extend that run beyond their visit to arch-rivals Liverpool.

Liverpool will still be reeling from last season, when United knocked them from their perch as the most successful English team by winning yet another Premier League title.

But despite Manchester United having an unbeaten start to the season, it will be Liverpool celebrating at the end of this encounter. Here's why.

Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard looks set to make a return to Liverpool's starting line up for the game at Anfield.

The return of such an inspirational figure after seven months out will be a huge boost for the Reds.

Leading from the front, the passionate skipper will do everything he can to get one up on rivals United and his return could be just what they need.

King Kenny

King Kenny Dalglish has made a huge impact since his return to the managerial seat at Liverpool.

Steering the club away from troubled times, in just a year he has transformed the team back into serious contenders for Champions League football.

The knowledge, motivational skills, and most importantly the passion of King Kenny will help Liverpool greatly this weekend, and he will be able to get more than enough from his players to overturn United.

Creativity

Liverpool's midfield underwent something of a transformation over the summer.

The introduction of Stuart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam to a midfield that can already boast Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard means Liverpool are overloaded with creative options.

Being spoilt for choice means Liverpool will struggle to have an off day in the midfield, if one player is not producing, there is always someone there to replace him.

The new faces in particular will be eager to prove themselves in a real big game, and this is their opportunity to perform. Expect them to take it.

Strike Force

When the two sides last met, Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll had only just arrived at the club, and it was Dirk Kuyt who took up scoring duties in a 3-1 win.

But now both of King Kenny's big signings are settled into the club, expect them to do a whole lot more damage themselves.

With Craig Bellamy also returning to the club, Liverpool are certainly not short of pace or finishing ability, and if anything does go wrong, they can still turn to Kuyt.

The pregame talk may be about Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck, but expect Suarez, Carroll and Bellamy to be the ones making an impact this time round.

The Kop

The Kop is one of the most famous stands in the world.

The noise it creates can be fearsome, and inspired by United overtaking Liverpool as the most successful domestic club in England, the Kop will be noisier than ever on Saturday.

United's current crop are not big fans, as they have lost on their last three visits to Anfield.

Filled with a sea of red and white scarves and flags the Kop will act as Liverpool's 12th man, and if all else fails, it will be the energy of the Kop that will see the Reds through.
