Liverpool FC Transfer Saga : 5 World-Class U-21 Talents the Reds Are After

0 of 5

Liverpool, like all other top European clubs, remain in the center of attention in the upcoming transfer market, especially after having splashed all the cash in the summer. The Anfield outfit appears to be on the list of big spenders.

Liverpool's owner, John W. Henry, has already made it clear that although Liverpool is  very much a work in progress, he would back the manager and his decisions so that the club can challenge for all the major championships in the coming year or two. He has also reiterated the fact that the club needs a major uplift to compete with the league title contenders like the Manchester clubs and Chelsea.

Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli have made no secret of the fact that the club now is also on the lookout for talents from around the world, especially South America, the European contours and Asia. So going by the club's table position by January or maybe even May, it would be no surprise if Liverpool go for some of the most desirable talents in the world.

Although it would be unreal to suggest that the Reds would go for all the talent mentioned here, even if they buy one or two from the list, it could lead to a massive improvement in the performances of the club.

Christian Eriksen from Ajax

This fabulous Dane has reportedly been topping the "most wanted" list of a lot of top clubs in Europe. After a few amazing performances for his club Ajax and lately even for his National side, Eriksen has further endeared a lot of top scouts around the world.

However, the 19-year-old reportedly favors a move to Spain or Italy instead of England on the grounds of more suitability to those styles of football rather than the fast, aggressive and very physical English football.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, however, still have reportedly shown interest in the player. If a bid for the player is made, the resolve of both the player and club could well be tested.

Mario Goetze from Borussia Dortmund

This 19-year-old is some talent. Arguably the heart beat of his present club side, Mario has been a superb player both for his club and country, Germany.

German Football Association's technical director Matthias Sammer called him "one of the best talents that we've ever had." In fact, the German whizkid has been so impressive that even the German legend Franz Beckenbauer has gone on record comparing him to Lionel Messi.

Now that is some compliment. However, Liverpool, Arsenal and in recent times, even Manchester United have been keen admirers of this diminutive German. If Liverpool are serious about making a bid for this phenomenal player, they may well have to splash about 20m at least.

Eden Hazard from Lille

Both Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish's admiration for Eden Hazard has been unknown to no one. Even one year ago, Dalglish and Damien Comolli were found scouting this Belgian talent. The rumors those days also linked Liverpool to other Lille talents of the day in Gervinho and Adil Rami. However, now with both gone from the French outfit without Liverpool even making a notice of, it seems Liverpool were really keen on just the talent the whole of European club football wants to woo, Eden Hazard.

However, with the player having declared Arsenal and Real Madrid as his preferred destination after his spell at Lille, it could be tough for Liverpool to buy this really special talent from France—unless of course, the rumors regarding Joe Cole's transfer to Lille gives Liverpool some advantage in the bidding for the player.

Also with the player having announced that this could possibly be his last year in French Football, Liverpool could be in the company of all the elite clubs in Europe vying for his signature.

Andy Polo from Universitario De Deportes, Peru

One rule to be successful in the transfer market is to buy genuinely talented players when they are young—very young. That is the only way one can make the real bargain buys and also make huge profit by selling them in the future if need be.

Although such markets need really good supervision, all reports coming from South America suggest Andy Polo a.k.a La Joya (The Jewel) from Peru is a special talent and reportedly one to watch out for in the future. What is interesting also is that Udinese, which unraveled gems like Alexis Sanchez, were very close to signing this Peruvian in the last transfer window.

After Liverpool and Arsenal were reportedly after this 17-year-old, contrasting reports are now emerging. Some suggest Polo's agent has remarked that his client is more likely to move to some unknown Bundesliga giant. While others have suggested Liverpool has called the player to Anfield for trial this month.

Whatever the truth is, interest from renowned young talent spotters like Udinese and Arsenal suggests that the kid could very well be a special talent.

Lucas Rodrigues Moura Da Silva from Sao Paolo, Brazil

Lucas Moura Da Silva is, on grounds of his club football in Brazil, arguably the most exciting footballer in the world. Even better, he is only 19 years old.

Although Lucas has yet to make a similar impact for his country, he is simply one talent that could be a massive boost for any club in Europe, provided he adjusts well to the conditions.

If Liverpool are really intent on splashing the cash and building a team for the future, they absolutely must buy Lucas Moura Da Silva and do so as fast as possible because Italian clubs are already knocking on Sao Paolo' door for their ace attacking mid-fielder.

However, chances that Liverpool will be able to buy Lucas this January seem bleak; if they qualify for the Champions League, they should be able to make a solid bid for him in the next summer transfer window. Till then, they would hope their main target manages to steer clear of any European interest.
