Euro 2012: Some Reasons England Can Triumph in Poland and Ukraine

Fabio Capello and England triumphed over World Champions Spain this weekend and so, naturally, huge expectation follows the immediate euphoria of an unexpected win.

To boost the expectation, I've been assigned an article to try and convince you England can win the 2012 European Championships.

Here we go.

England's side is developing as some players get older and other players come of age. England have a plethora of experienced midfielders, attackers and defenders to choose from. John Terry, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney have all been to European Championships before and will probably feature in next year's campaign.

What does this mean?

Experience in midfield is vital. At times, it's a bad pass at a bad time which loses a game at the highest level. I'm going to put my head on the line here and guarantee you that experienced players like Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard or Scott Parker won't make a mistake that costs England.

With mistakes not as likely, England have a better chance of doing well.

It's sad to say it, but what was supposed to be the golden era of English football is ending. Steven Gerrard has admitted that he will be treating Euro 2012 as "His last ever international tournament." Frank Lampard will be the same, almost certainly. Scott Parker is in the same boat.

It will be the extra determination obtained by the knowledge that Euro 2012 will be the last time they can walk out onto a pitch bearing the three-lions crest that may push England to victory.

The thing with England that has usually made them so disappointing is that our team looks like one of the best in the world on paper. However, if Capello can find a starting 11 that integrates youth and experience, we would be getting somewhere.

I'm sure I could think of three starting 11s capable of beating any team. Please, let's just find a formation and keep it to it.

Being a Liverpool fan myself, I can tell you that players like Steven Gerrard can change games. That video there proves that. England trailing, up comes Steven Gerrard to win the game for England. Frank Lampard can also do that. Wayne Rooney has done it before.

It takes one player to change a game. One. We have three globally famous players who do it more often than not. Something's got to give.

He's not English. He didn't win the World Cup. Why is he fit to manage England?

He's not a very successful coach, is he?

A team is always lifted up by the presence of loyal fans. England does have an extremely loyal set of followers, and at times it's that little bit of encouragement that carries teams to victory.

You know what? I've convinced myself. To be honest, I approached this article with an extremely pessimistic outlook on English football, but now I've given it a bit of thought—anyone can win.

Of course, it's not a given. Of course it's not. Of course, the media will egg the team on and fans will turn their backs on their team and think "Theres no chance in hell."

Maybe, just maybe, that's what the team needs. Spain travelled to England quite confident and returned to Madrid Airport defeated. Maybe without the pressure of having to do well, England actually will.
