Liverpool FC: Is It Time for the to Reds Move on from Anfield?

Anfield is a hallowed hall rich on history. Some of football's greatest moments have taken place on the sacred turf that lies beneath the Kop. Home of Liverpool Football Club since their birth in 1892, Anfield is without a doubt one of football's great monuments.

Eighteen First Divisions. Four European Cups and one Champions League. Three UEFA Cups. Seven League Cups. Seven FA Cups. That is the list of titles that the famous club have brought to share with their home.

Few rival it.

All that said, Anfield's age is beginning to show. At 127 years of age, you would have to say she is worthy of an honourable retirement. She holds just over 45,000 fans for every game. While that was once an immense figure, it now looks up at six Premier League stadiums in the rankings of attendances.

There has been much talk of Liverpool moving out and building a joint stadium with neighbours Everton. However, those plans never seemed to materialize and eventually fell apart.

With the Reds being taken over by Fenway Sports Group and the riches that have come with them, reports inevitably came up again about Liverpool potentially moving away from wonderful Anfield.

There has been a clear change of course in Merseyside, as Liverpool are now looking forward to a bright future when it once looked bleak. It was assumed that change would include a change of scenery for the legendary club, moving away from the only home it had ever known.

Fortunately, FSG owner John Henry was quick to downplay any suggestions that the Reds might be moving out, stating that the club would much rather expand their stadium than move it.

Henry is right. It is not time to move away from Anfield, nor will it ever be. By all means, expand it. If Liverpool want to be truly great, an immense stadium (60,000+) must be part of the package. But Anfield can never, and should never, be replaced. She is the home of Liverpudlian football, and will always be.

No new ground will ever be able to speak the memories that Anfield can. She will never walk alone.
