Luis Suarez: His Top 10 Moments for Liverpool So Far

When Luis Suarez scored against QPR on Saturday, he once again underlined his importance to this Liverpool team. Suarez is Liverpool's best player, and he's their most important player as well. Without him they would be struggling greatly because, although he's not a natural finisher, he is their biggest goal-scoring threat.

Suarez has been at Liverpool for just under 11 months and has already established himself as a fan favourite for both his talent and his desire. There are few strikers that work as hard as him, and there are even less that have his ability.

Twelve goals and 11 assists from 31 games thus far in his Liverpool career is a fantastic return, but the numbers only tell half the story. His performances have been nothing short of fantastic. Of those 31, you could count the poor performances on one hand.

Had Suarez played more games last season then he, and not Lucas Leiva, would have been crowned Player of the Season but there's absolutely no doubt who's winning that award this season. Such is his brilliance that Suarez has won as many Man of the Match awards as the rest of his teammates combined since his arrival at the club.

In this article I thought I'd have a look back at his time at the club so far, and highlight the best moments of his short Liverpool career.

Fenway Sports Group and Damien Comolli wanted to make an impact in the transfer market to boost Liverpool fans, the boost the team and to show the rest of the Premier League that they meant business. It was decided that the best way to do this was to bring in a strike partner for Spanish superstar Fernando Torres.

The man chosen to form the dream pairing with Torres was Ajax's Uruguayan superstar Luis Suarez, a man who had plundered goals for fun in the Eredivisie and was making a real impact on the European stage for his club and the International stage for his country.

After a week or so of negotiations the two parties finally agreed on a fee and Luis Suarez agreed to become a Liverpool player. Reds fans who were not completely familiar with just how good their new signing was flooded to YouTube to watch videos of him and came away believing that their dreams had come through and that Liverpool finally had the perfect partner for Fernando Torres.

Hunt and St. John, Keegan and Toshack, Dalglish and Rush, Fowler and Rush, Heskey and Owen, surely Suarez and Torres was going to join those partnerships in the annals of Liverpool footballing lore and go down as one of the greats.

Unfortunately Fernando Torres threw a spanner in the works by demanding a transfer to Chelsea and Liverpool fans never got to witness the pairing, although if recent rumours are to be believed, Torres might be on his way back to Liverpool and the dream pairing might yet get the go-ahead.

There is no more famous jersey at Liverpool than the No. 7 shirt. It's been worn by two of the all time greats in Kevin Keegan and current Liverpool manager, "King" Kenny Dalglish. Traditionally it's the shirt given to the support striker who acts as the chief playmaker of the team.

When Suarez arrived, he was handed the No. 7 shirt and made fully aware of what that shirt meant to the fans. There is no greater honour that can be bestowed on a new signing at Liverpool than the No. 7 shirt.

Suarez has been tasked with helping bring the glory days back to Anfield while wearing the shirt of men who brought so much success in years gone past. The No. 7 shirt comes with a lot to live up to. I think it's fair to say he's done it justice so far.

A cheer erupted from the Liverpool fans as their newest superstar-to-be stripped off his tracksuits and did some last minute preparations before entering the fray to make his debut. Liverpool fans were still struggling to cope with the departure of Fernando Torres and were badly in need of a boost.

That boost came with the introduction of Luis Alberto Suarez Diaz. The buzz that went around Anfield as he entered the fray was something that had been badly missing since Xabi Alonso's departure and the beginning of the demise of Rafa Benitez.

It is without hesitation that I saw that since the moment he came on to the pitch on 2 February until now, Luis Suarez has been our best and most important player and will continue to be those things for a long time to come.

Capping off a debut display that had the Anfield faithful on the edge of their seats, Suarez bagged himself what will surely turn out to be the first of many Liverpool goals.

A perfectly timed run, followed by a good piece of skill to take the ball around the goalkeeper, left Suarez with an open net and although he slightly scuffed his left footed finish it still found it's way into the Stoke net.

As the ball nestled in the net Anfield arose and a star was born.

Liverpool vs Manchester United is the biggest game in the English football calender and never is a victory over United more special to Liverpool fans when it's a comprehensive one like this. In all honesty, 3-1 flattered United and they really should have gone home on the end of a four or five goal hammering.

At the heart of everything that was good about Liverpool was Luis Suarez. He led the United defence a merry-dance time and time again and made Patrice Evra in particular look like an amateur. Evra probably wished he was back in South Africa leading another walk out because the disgrace of turning your back on your country would likely have been preferable to the embarrassment of what Suarez did to him and his fellow defenders.

United simply had no answer to Suarez and it was his incredible dribble to create Dirk Kuyt's first goal in what would turn out to be a hat-trick that really announced his arrival in the Premier League. Suarez beat four United defenders in less than ten yards before poking the ball through Edwin Van Der Sar's legs to give Dirk Kuyt with the easiest finish he will ever come across.

Truly a moment to savour. 

Off the back of his virtuoso display against Manchester United, Suarez decided that venue for the next display of his genius and willingness to try the near-impossible was to be Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

A quick give and go with DIrk Kuyt gave Suarez the ball right on the endline with seemingly limited options. No matter to Suarez who had already decided what option he was going to take. It was an option that most players would not even have seen, let alone considered, but Suarez is not most players.

With brazen cheek and stunning accuracy he drove the ball past the Sunderland keeper from the most impossible of angles to give Liverpool their second goal and secure all three points for Kenny Dalglish's team.

Luis Suarez finished this game with one goal and one assist as you'll see in the video above. However, the video doesn't even begin to show just how good Suarez was in this game.

From the first whistle he was just on another level and caused the Fulham defence constant problems. His link up play with Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez was absolutely world class, his movement off the ball was fantastic and when he had the ball at his feet he was simply stunning.

He waltzed past Fulham defender after Fulham defender, toying with them and making them look, at times, like schoolboy players called up to play in the big leagues.

It's very rare for a player to score a hat-trick and not be voted Man Of The Match but that's exactly what happened in this game. Maxi grabbed his second hat-trick in three games but such was Suarez's brilliance that it was he who took home the Man Of The Match award.

Suarez started this season scoring goals but not playing at the same level as he finished last season. This can be attributed to tiredness following his exertions at the Copa America where he wowed everyone that say him play as he led Uruguay to the title. He announced his return to top form against Bolton in Liverpool's third game of the season with a stunning display. 

Gary Cahill was linked with many clubs during the summer, including Liverpool, and has had fans and journalists alike talking him up like he's the second coming of Bobby Moore. Suarez made him look like Michael Moore with this display as he gave Cahill a lesson in what it is to be a top class player.

He taunted and teased the Bolton defence from the off with his clever running, silky skills and incisive passing. His pass with the outside of his boot to Stewart Downing was out of this world and if there's been a better pass in English football this season I haven't seen it.

Suarez didn't score in this game, nor was he credited with any assists but he made the first goal with the pass to Downing, it was his run across the face of goal which took Bolton defenders away from Martin Skrtel and left the big centreback with any easy header from Charlie Adam's corner kick, and he made the third goal with his control and lay-off to Dirk Kuyt who in turn found Charlie Adam.

Suarez was involved in everything good that Liverpool did on the day and earned another well deserved Man Of The Match award.

Sometimes words just don't do justice to goals and this is one of those occasions. Everything about this goal is pure class from Suarez. The movement out wide to create space for himself, the touch and control to bring the ball under his spell, the little shimmy which sent one defender the wrong direction to cover an overlapping run, the nutmeg through the legs of the defender who was unlucky enough to be facing him, and the perfect curling shot which bent around a defender and around the goalkeepers despairing dive to nestle in the net.

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever.

Such are the high standard Luis Suarez has set for himself at Liverpool that when he went six games in a row without scoring following the beauty against Stoke, Liverpool fans began to worry that their magician was losing his touch.

Suarez laid those fears to rest with a well taken headed goal against QPR last weekend which capped off an exceptional display from the Uruguayan frontman. Suarez was so good in this game that even Neil Warnock said he had no complaints about losing to a goal scored by Suarez because he was just "that good".

So there you have it, the ten best moments of Luis Suarez's young Liverpool career. I'm sure that by the time he leaves Liverpool there will be more than enough moments and matches of brilliance to complete a top 100.
