Manchester United Transfers: 7 Biggest January Window Rumours

Everyone loves the transfer window unless you're a mid-table team who just happens to have a superstar in your squad that the rest of the world wants to sign.

That's rarely the case for Manchester United, as there are few higher status teams in the world that could offer more money, potential for trophies and international acclaim.

In fact, Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player I can think of that has actually felt the pull to move without cause.

There was no fall out with Sir Alex Ferguson, he wasn't playing in a struggling team and I'm sure there wouldn't have been a wage figure that United couldn't have come close to matching.

Ronaldo just wanted to move on, unlike Beckham who had a very well documented bust up with the United manager, which ultimately ruined their relationship.

Here we take a look at some of the more prominent transfer rumours that have been circling around the Red Devils of late.

Newcastle's holding midfielder Cheik Tiote has been linked with Manchester United as reported in the Daily Mirror.

Tiote has been superb for Newcastle prior to his injury and Alex Ferguson could look to take him to Old Trafford in the Summer.

There's no mention of a figure, but his displays warrant at least quadruple the £3.5 million that Newcastle paid for him in August 2010.

Alan Pardew may struggle to keep him in January.

Christian Eriksen has been linked to Liverpool for a while, but now it looks as though Alex Ferguson will dip into the market for him due to a number of injury concerns in his current squad.

Again it's the Daily Mail providing the story, but Eriksen has shown great promise in his fledgling career thus far and may find the attraction of playing at Old Trafford too big to ignore.

Another player who has been linked with both Liverpool and Manchester United of late is Nicholas Gaitin.

The Sunday Telegraph are suggesting there is some deal already in place with Manchester United for the much sought after Argentine playmaker.

£29.3 million is well within Manchester United's budget if the fee is to be believed, and he is certainly a player who could make an impact in the Premier League.

Whether this supposed transfer is being made for Honda's footballing abilities, or whether it is a shrewd move to gain favour and supporters in the Asian market is for anyone to speculate.

£18 million is the price quoted for Manchester United to sign the Japanese star from Russian club CSKA Moscow, which sounds a little high for someone yet to really prove their worth.

Like Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, and Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona, this story is one that just won't go away, suggesting it might actually happen at some point.

It's no secret that Ferguson wants Sneijder, it's just how much he is willing to pay.

Caughtoffside.com think that a £25 million pound bid will be made in January to try and tempt the San Siro star given the poor position in Serie A that Inter Milan currently occupy.

Signed in 2009, Pogba is yet to force his way into the starting 11 at Manchester United.

Whilst touted as one of the most promising young players United have on their books, there has been lots of speculation linking him away from Old Trafford and possibly to neighbours Manchester City

Everton youngster Jack Rodwell is the source of constant speculation these days, and today is no different.

Chelsea and Manchester United are both reported to be in the hunt for the gifted England midfielder, and a January transfer could be the most lucrative for cash strapped Everton.

It seems uncertain whether Alex Ferguson will delve into the January transfer market this year after publicly declaring that he probably won't.

Everyone knows Ferguson is the master of mind games though, so you could take his comments with a pinch of salt.

United's injury list reads impressively as Vidic, Hernandez, Owen, Fletcher, Anderson, Rafael and Fabio are all currently receiving treatment.

The Wednesday night game against a lacklustre Fulham side also saw Ashley Young and Phil Jones go off with injuries, which hopefully for United won't be serious.

With Ferdinand and Valencia both seemingly susceptible to frequent knocks and strains, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Manchester United led the January transfer charge for fear of being caught short when it matters most.
