Chelsea Transfer News: Gary Cahill Swoop Best Move for All Parties Involved

Chelsea have had their struggles on the pitch, but they've finally broken through on the transfer front with one of the most sought-after players in all of England.

26-year-old Gary Cahill of Bolton is set to walk this summer and struggling Wanderers are keen on getting something in return for his services. This summer, they saw a number of clubs come calling but were never able to strike a deal.

Now, with the January transfer window set to open in only a few days' time, Chelsea appear to have given Bolton what they want. According to Alan Nixon of Mirror Football:

Chelsea have opened talks with Bolton and England centre-half Gary Cahill—after agreeing a £7million fee and being given permission to speak about terms...Cahill—a free agent in the summer—is expected to say “yes” to the Stamford Bridge switch, although there are still details to be sorted out about the size and length of contract...However, Chelsea are expected to make him an offer that will be good enough to persuade him to head for London ­immediately.

The Blues have struggled to the finish in the first half of the campaign and currently sit fourth behind Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs. Of the top four teams, they've suffered the most defeats, given up the most goals and, what is most disappointing is the amount of goals they've given up at Stamford Bridge.

Cahill can help that immediately. Despite the amount of money that Chelsea annually throws around, they've yet to find a complete squad new boss Andre Villas-Boas is comfortable with.

Splashing out money to relegation-bound Bolton works for both sides and Cahill himself. Wanderers can take the transfer fee and focus it on adding players who can help them stave off relegation.

Naturally, the Englishman only wants to play Premier League ball, but he also has his international career to think about. England is preparing for a difficult road at Euro 2012 and Cahill is working towards fitting into Fabio Capello's starting XI.

Playing with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League and in 2011 Champions League play will be a huge boost to the centre-half who has only made seven career appearances for Three Lions so far.

Look for all parties involved to make the most of this winter transfer.

Cahill stands to gain more from his experience now in London than waiting for more money this summer. Bolton gets the money it needs to make moves to better the club. And Chelsea, hopefully, adds a presence that can get them back on track.
