Arsenal Transfer News: Matias Suarez Would Be Ideal Fit for Gunners

Arsene Wenger and Arsenal find themselves one point out of a UEFA Champions League top-four finish and 12 points behind Manchester City for first place in the English Premier League.

While finishing on top of the standings is pretty much out of the question, achieving a top-four spot is definitely in play for the Gunners.

Arsenal already grabbed Thierry Henry for goal-scoring help, but adding a player like Matias Suarez would be an ideal transfer to sweeten the pot even further.

He’s from a small club in Belgium (Anderlecht), so he’s not going to cost as much. That’s always a prime concern for the Gunners, so no worries there. He has scored 25 goals in 96 appearances with his club side.

Suarez can play multiple positions if asked to do so, which is something we are accustomed to seeing from Arsenal. He’s young, talented, can score goals and is on the rise in European football.

Having scoring depth should be primary concern No. 1, along with finalizing their defensive issues. If any top-tier team needs goal scoring, it's Arsenal.

Robin van Persie can only take this team so far without getting any goal-scoring assistance. He has 17 goals this season, and Gervinho is second with four. Mikel Arteta is third with three goals scored and Theo Walcott is fourth with two.

Every time Arsenal is in a hole, van Persie digs them out. You would expect his hot streak to continue, but you could also expect at least a little drop off. Somebody else has to fill the void.

They are hoping Henry can be that guy, but the absence of goal scoring will be even more in danger when the African Nations Cup begins. Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh will be gone for an extended period of time to take part in the extravaganza.

Signing a guy like Suarez who can play multiple positions and score goals is paramount, especially when Arsenal will be short-handed.

Arsenal needs to add scoring depth if they want to keep pace with Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle.

Suarez makes perfect sense for the Gunners and their hopes of qualifying in the top four of the EPL standings. They have done so every year since the turn of the century. It would be quite odd not to see them in the UEFA Champions League.

Wenger should put his team in the best possible situation to reach their goal by signing Suarez.
