Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Arsene Wenger Must Address Lack of Scoring

If Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger doesn't bring in attacking reinforcements during this month's transfer window, then the Gunners will not finish in the top four of the Premier League table and qualify for Champions League play next season.

World class striker Robin van Persie has scored an astounding 17 goals this season in league play, but no one else has scored more than four times.  

Gervinho is second on the team with four goals, but he will leave the Emirates during January to join the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations.

Wenger must bring in attacking talent to give Van Persie some help in the final third of the pitch. You cannot ask the Dutch star to continue carrying the club from a goal-scoring standpoint, it's too much responsibility for one player to have.

The Gunners did very well to jump back into contention for a top for finish in the league after a terrible start to the season but their inability to score in recent matches has doomed them.

Arsenal hasn't scored more than two goals in their last six league matches, and they are 3-1-2 during that stretch.

Not only does Arsenal not have any proven goal scorers other than Van Persie, their other attacking players are very inconsistent performers.

Theo Walcott, Andrei Arshavin and Marouane Chamakh are way too inconsistent for the Gunners and cannot be relied on too provide timely scoring.

There are good options in the transfer market for Wenger to consider, but will he spend the funds necessary to bring the quality he needs?

In the summer he sold stars Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy so the club certainly has the funds needed to purchase a world-class talent.

German forward Lukas Podolski, French striker Loic Remy and Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar are all targets Wenger could pursue and any of them would be a tremendous help to the Arsenal attack.

Arsenal needs to finish in the top four this season because star players won't want to come to the Emirates in the summer without Champions League football.

Wenger must help the club address its need for more goal scoring if Arsenal are going to finish the season strongly.
