January Transfers: Dream Scenarios for Arsenal, United, Liverpool, City, Chelsea

0 of 5

January is more than halfway complete, and while some big deals have already gone down, England's major clubs have been mostly silent so far.

That might or might not change in the next two weeks. Only the managers and administrators of each club know what's going to happen.

Here's something we can control: a list of the dream transfer scenarios for Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

For most, the best scenarios include buying new players. But for some, a sale or two might be more prudent.

Arsenal: Fullback and Forward

1 of 5

Arsenal need fullbacks and good finishers.

In the backline, Bacary Sagna, Andre Santos and Kieran Gibbs are all injured, and the Gunners' makeshift options haven't performed well.

Eric Abidal reportedly was targeted after his contract negotiations with Barcelona stalled. Some reports say he's signed a new deal, but they're unconfirmed. At 32, he's older than a typical Arsene Wenger target but would provide top-class talent and much-needed experience at the back.

Up top, Arsenal have Robin Van Persie and…Robin Van Persie. Thierry Henry is back in London on loan, but he'll be gone in a couple of months, and at 34, he's not a long-term option anyway. Marouane Chamakh has disappointed and surely will be sold sooner than later.

Arsenal need forwards, but not just any forwards. Creating chances hasn't been Arsenal's problem. Putting them away has. A clinical forward would help Arsenal's scoring record immensely.

FC Köln's Lukas Podolski has long been linked to Arsenal. A move to London would seem to be a good fit.

Manchester United: Center Back and Midfield

2 of 5

Center back Nemanja Vidic is out for the season. Midfielders Darren Fletcher and Ashley Young face long layoffs.

So, while United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says he won't buy any new players, it's hard to take him at his word. Serbian Neven Subotic would be a solid option in central defense, and while Paul Scholes is back in the midfield, United still need reinforcements.

The Red Devils have been linked with several potential midfield options, any of which would have positives and negatives.

Liverpool: Ba or Bent

3 of 5

Andy Carroll still can't score, and Luis Suarez is serving an eight-match ban. Liverpool clearly need help up top.

The Reds have been linked with Newcastle's Demba Ba and Aston Villa's Darren Bent. Neither seems likely to end up at Anfield this winter, but either would help.

Manchester City: Sell Tevez. Please.

4 of 5

Manchester City have hit a rough patch, losing four of their last eight matches in all competitions. But it's not for lack of talented players. City still have the deepest squad in England.

What Roberto Mancini and company really need is to end the Carlos Tevez saga. End that distraction and then refocus on the league.

Chelsea: Sell a Forward, Buy Another

5 of 5

First-year manager Andre Villas-Boas is in the process of overhauling the Chelsea roster, and the purchase of Bolton center back Gary Cahill served as a great starting point this winter.

Now it's time to focus on the other end of the pitch. Nicolas Anelka is supposed to be heading to China; next, Chelsea must trim some more dead weight.

Then they should find another striker. Napoli's Edinson Cavani would be great, but he probably won't be available until the summer.
