Fernando Torres and Shocking Premier League Rumors That Just Might Be True

0 of 5

With the Winter transfer window just one week away from closing, teams across the world are trying to make their last big move before the dog days of summer hit.

The English Premier League is home to some of the wealthiest and influential teams on the planet, so expect a few more splashes before the week ends. That being said, as with any rumor mill there are some circling that seem far-fetched but that doesn't mean they couldn't still happen.

Here's a list of some of the more eyebrow-raising rumors circulating out there that could become fact.

Joe Allen

Swansea's Welsh sensation Joe Allen has all of a sudden become the topic of interest by rivals Tottenham and Liverpool.

It's been reported that Spurs boss Henry Redknapp sees potential in the 21-year-old and is strongly considering making a late transfer window push to acquire the talented youngster.

Liverpool is monitoring the situation between Spurs and the Swans, hoping to make a move during the summer window for No. 24. The Reds have reportedly sent scouts to watch Allen on several occasions already.

Swansea is leaning towards keeping hold of their young talent however, asking somewhere in the ballpark of 10 million euros for the playmaker, whose under contract until the year 2015. The move seems unlikely to happen during this transfer window, but summer may be the season we see Allen on the move.

Steven Pienaar

Tottenham's Steven Pienaar was signed during last year's winter transfer window, but suffered a groin injury this past August and has only made nine appearances for the Spurs so far.

Examiner.com believes that Tottenham is in talks with Queens Park Rangers over a six million euro transfer fee for the South African footballer. The Daily Mail reports that QPR has only offered half the asking price so far for Pienaar, but he's never really fit into Tottenham's system so there's a chance they could let him walk for a discounted price.

Willian

Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Willian has become the latest player of interest for English powerhouse Chelsea, who are looking to land the Brazilian before the window closes.

The Ukrainian was offered 20 million euros by the Blues for their 23-year-old star, however The Daily Mail is reporting Shakhtar wants 28 million for his services.

While that may seem a high price to pay, it's actually a discount according to Willian's current club, who stated if it "Weren't for [a] good relationship with Chelsea... we would insist on his 29 million euro release clause."

It'll be difficult to pull off as Shakhtar stated in that same Daily Mail article that they wish to hold onto their Brazilian attacker, but the good relationship between the two clubs may allow the deal to get done.

Leandro Damiao

The Daily Mail is in for a busy week on the rumor mill if you can't tell by now, who have stated that Manchester United is looking to acquire International striker Leandro Damiao.

Tottenham went down this road with the Brazilian club last summer, who were unwilling to budge on their 25 million euro price tag on the superstar.

That price may be high for the likes of Spurs, but the Red Devils seem to be leaning towards paying the fee to get a hold of the man who has scored 21 goals in just 53 appearances for his current club.

Fernando Torres

It seems hard to believe after paying the single highest British transfer fee of all time just a season ago that Chelsea would be willing to sell Fernando Torres, but they are.

That is, of course if you believe The Daily Mail report that claims Carlo Ancelotti of Paris Saint-Germain has been offered Torres by the Blues.

Both the Mail and The Daily Mirror are reporting this offer has happened, which could lead to Chelsea admitting defeat on signing the Spaniard before giving the player a proper time to adjust.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea is willing to make the deal with PSG, but regardless of what the French club offers it'd be difficult to see the London club parting ways with Torres so soon.
